You know what, then why the hell don't we just stay in this time zone then and stop playing clock games? I have never understood this crap they feed us about "saving energy" and increasing daylight. That's nothing but self-serving justification for screwing with peoples rest patterns.

It is only daylight for a certain number of hours each day. Summer longer than winter. We change clocks in the fall and it is still frigging dark when you get up and when you go to bed in the winter. What impact is this having on anything outside of our sleep? NONE!

Indiana just had to be like everybody else didn't it? What has it gained from this crap? NOTHING. Just pissing off the people and trying to turn them into sheeple.

being in a business that relies on shipping and dealing with other states.........it IS nice being consistent with other states...knowing what time it is....here and other states without a calendar and a slide rule............

I know it't not really a big deal...and I didn't care if we was east coast or central...........just being the same all year is nicer....as far as doing business...

I have never bought that "saving energy" line. I just know that I really like the extra daylight time after I get home from work.

"You know what, then why the hell don't we just stay in this time zone then and stop playing clock games?"

I have heard it said that the reason we go back to standard time during the winter is so the school children don't have to go to school in the early morning darkness.

(Mind you, I think there could be a better solution there too.  )

That's not true though. My 16 year old's bus picks her up at 6:45 every morning. Where is the light?

Well.....there ya go! See! I knew I had heard wrong!

No you didn't hear wrong Bo, that is yet another one of the "justifications" Mitch Da #%*ch used in validating the imposition of DST on the citizens of Indiana.

Recent studies have indicated the supposed positive impact upon businesses such as shippers etc., were also a self-serving justification that clearly has not materialized. (Personally I don't know what the big issue was to begin with. So it took a little gray matter to figure out what time it was in Indiana. What else were you using it for anyway?)

In a time when scientific evidence is increasingly demonstrating that sleep deprivation is negatively impacting worker productivity and health, our state endorses something to just make it worse on everyone instead of better.

And you know what; the farmers were still out in the fields well after dark this past fall. . .

Are the rest of you as excited as I am over the prospect of playing clock games this weekend, and the forthcoming upsetting of our biological sleep cycles!
My sleep cycle is a wreck anyway so it really don't bother me too much....

Here in IL we've always had daylight savings time. It works good for me. I do my gardening in the evening, so it's nice that it stays light out a little later.  I'm always kind of surprised how upset people get about it.

I know a couple years ago people were upset because in the fall (?) I think, it puts the kids out at the bus stop when it's still dark. That's not a problem for us because the schools are close and don't start until 8ish. When I was in HS there were some kids that it would have been a problem for, because it was a rural community and some of the kids commuted 45 to an hour to get to school. I imagine they were waiting in the dark most morning and it was prolly almost dark before they got home.

This friggin' ice storm is getting rather nasty. The power is constantly going off and on, the trees are all starting to sag under the weight of the ice, and the wind is blowing and gusting really badly.  :spooked:

I just went outside and had to scrape a 1/4 inch or more of ice off the truck just to see where the heck I was going. Its raining and the temps are right at 31 - 32 degrees.

I'm betting this evening we go to sleep with the sound of cracking wood and crashing trees in the background. :icon_twisted:

This is probably going to be taken the wrong way...and I assure you it is NOT intended to be given the wrong way. But, this is something that is starting to get under my skin for some time now...so RANT TIME.......Is it me or does it seem that certain people have hatred towards anyone who is white and/or Christian?  It has become quite apparent to me, that we have become an easy target to jump on.  If a white, Christian stands up for what he/she believes in...it gives the impression that we are being raciest or mightier than thou...  Has it become wrong to be a proud white man, who practices Christian values?  Another poster recently made a sarcastic statement that "war was okay as long as 'white people' are not dying.".... I thought that was a crock of crap, but yet, I have heard those words by certain people way too many times.....I can assure you, I have no hatred towards any particular race, gender or creed......and WAR does SUCK...but, I prefer that we fight, to keep Americans safe and secure...and unfortunately...AMERICANS may have to die in order to maintain this way of life.   I wish that this person would have referred that in lieu of white people, that it would be Americans...white, black, brown, red what ever color you may be and not African, Asian or Hispanic but AMERICAN......I think we ALL should be proud of our heritage and respect our ancestors.. I AM proud of my heritage.  I am thrilled that I was raised by parents who loved me, and allowed me to be who I am...I am proud to say, that I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior...and I fail many times, but I have set my goal to live and raise my children to honor the Holy Bible and live as Christ taught us best to live...but it has become "wrong" for me (and my kind) to stand up for certain issues...that we believe to be wrong...Mike Huckabee was ridiculed beyond comprehension for being a proud Christian who wants to be President...but, when Mr. Obama's religion was brought up.....it was "wrong" for us to question him and that his religion really doesn't manner...It has become okay, for certain groups to stand up for their lifestyle choices to be recognized....but, for anybody to oppose them in a peaceful manner....has become bigoted.  With THAT said.....I understand that there so-called religious groups out there that deserve to be chastised...but, far and large, most Christians simply want to voice their opinion with representation...and keep it out of the courts, but with the voice of the people...to be voted on.    I'm on a roll and beginning to ramble...so, I will take a breath..and let this RANT be a RANT and move on...

I know it. Ours has been all day long. Luckily I have a battery back up and surge protector and that seems to get me right through these flickering s without an issue.

You should check one out. They are less than 100 bucks at Fry's.

Well dang. I'm sitting at Panera, my kids are getting out of school, and I'm not feeling all that confident of driving on these pure drops of ice I'm watching falling to the ground.  This is mini-hail, right?

I've got a good surge protector but it still scares me.  Can you get battery backups for desk tops?
