oh, so you don't even have to check to see if a word is spelled wrong because it's done automatically for you.......Well isn't that special. How do you know if you're a good speller or not if your words are automatically corrected? Doesn't that mean you don't have to think about it?

I don't use a crutch but it helps when a word shows up and corrects it if the word is spelled incorrectly! It is as simple as that. I actually happen to be a very good speller.
You are so wrong about anyone changing graphs and charts because like I said no education department is going to be be caught having false data and get in trouble for that. Hard for you to understand that isn't it?
Once again in larger print.... THEY ARE NOT CHANGING THE CHARTS AND GRAPHS THEY ARE USING THE ONES FROM AREAS WHICH BENEFIT THEM. IT IS NOT FALSE DATA IT IS SKEWED. IT IS THE CORRECT DATA FOR CERTAIN AREAS.

Nope. I don't have to think because it only will correct a word if it is spelled incorrectly and since I rarely misspell words I don't have to worry about it. I would explain how autocorrect works but it is above your intelligence level. The graphs and data isn't skewed but we are still waiting on data from you! Where is your data that private schools and home school kids out perform public school kids?
You seem to have hard time understanding that they can't give skewed data either since it would be a school departments ass on the line.

One error because I'm hurried and distracted and I'm nailed to the cross for it and you say you have no problem spelling but yet you use auto correct to make sure you're spelling correctly.....hum....I'd say you're not too confident in your spelling if you use auto correct to back you up. Why bother to find out if I even have the option of auto correct if I haven't used it in all these years I don't figure I need it now. What I have underlined in your post is exactly what I'm talking about Purplelady, no one has to think anymore because of all the crutches available to do their thinking for them and they aren't even aware of it.

Obviously, you have no clue how autocorrect works because it only hits on a word if I spell it wrong and corrects it! The times that has happened has been very rare!  I am very confident in my spelling abilities since I always made A's in that subject. Like I said, autocorrect and how it works is above your intelligence factor. We all know you haven't shown data like was asked and who can't think?

You're the one using it to make sure you spell things right and I'm not using it and have one misspelled word in many and I'm the dumb one?????  Do you realize that makes no sense what-so-ever? Why do you use it if you're so confident? Evidentally you do misspell words occasionally and thought you needed it or you wouldn't use it either.

Because on a tablet and a smart phone, it is a feature that is installed and cannot be removed. I don't have to check my spelling! Like I said it only hits if a word shows up wrong. For instance, if I spell grammar, it will often pop up  words very similar to grammar. All technological devices these days have them and not many ways of getting rid of them. I don't see the need to explain autocorrect to someone who doesn't understand how technology works and the devices that they are placed on! I am very confident that I probably could out spell you any day of the week and not need a device to do so! It is not anyone's fault that your devices don't correct spelling mistakes or that you would have corrected your spelling mistake since there is that little edit button. That is what most of us do!

Spell check and autocorrect are two different things and yes, you can shut autocorrect off if you know how because some friends of mine have smart phones and have theirs shut off. I do not have a smart phone or iphone by choice not because I don't know how to use one. I do have a cell phone which is carried in the car for emergencies. If people want to talk to me they can call my home phone and if I'm not home they can leave a message.  I have a digital camera to do videos and pictures and when I get home I plug it into my pc and take them off. If I'm online I'm either on my pc or my laptop so I have neither spell check or autocorrect and don't want, or need, either one.

You cannot shut autocorrect or spell check  off on my phone or my tablet, I have checked and it is not allowed on that feature plus my cellphone is our landline. . I type and don't pay attention to either one of them because like I said it is rare that I make a spelling error.

Then you're admitting you do make them occasionally I take it. So it is ok for you to make a spelling error occasionally but if I make a typo because I'm hurried and distracted I'm dumb but you're not even though you have a device that corrects yours for you? Well aren't you just too special?

I also can go back and correct my spelling error using the handy little edit button that is on here. Now, see how easy that is and that way I corrected my mistake before anyone else has! See how that works! You seem to have a hard time understanding that the device doesn't catch all spelling errors so I proof my spelling and correct those mistakes if I made any! That is why, the edit button is handy and yes, I am special because I am that good! Jealousy doesn't become you!

So you can even correct your mistakes you never make with a handy little crutch on the forum huh?  I guess you haven't found the button to correct the error you made in this post though. Oh wait, there isn't one for that, or maybe it was next to that handy little spell check button you told me about and you didn't see it. I'll give you a chance to proof read and find your error before I correct it for you. Now if it isn't an error you can explain why because I'm sure, with all your knowledge and experience, you know. Anyone else may feel free to point it out if you would like.

As for the jealousy thing I do have a question. Why should I be jealous of you because you use crutches to help you spell? Are you sure it isn't you who are jealous because I don't and still make few spelling errors or typo's?

PH, I know you have a steel horse so have to ask you and the other riders, what do you think about riding with a helmet? I know some people don't believe in them but the state of Illinois have changed in the ages one should be in wearing a helmet. Just wondering?

No mistake in spelling but that is okay. I am sure you thought I spelled helmet wrong or Illinois. Why would I be jealous of someone who refuses to get with the times, common core and things that will help our kids! You need to understand that common core is here to stay same as making sure our teachers are well prepared to do their job!

I didn't say it was a spelling error. I'm sure Ex, BoD, PH, or Locutus would be happy to correct it for you if you can't find it since they're always so glad to point out HH or my mistakes.
As for common core you still have not explained to my satisfaction why making something simple into a complicated jumble of crap is better. Sure it looks impressive on paper but why take all those steps to solve simple problem? To me that doesn't make the kids any smarter it just makes them take more steps to arrive at the same conclusion they could have arrived at using less steps and, therefore, taking less time. I'll choose the person who can figure out how much insulin I would need to bring me too before I go into a coma using the short method before I'd pick one using the common core method. No, I'm not a diabetic but know someone who is and if you don't know what I'm referring to here I'll explain it to you.

No, you made the claim of a spelling error and not grammatical errors. I make those big dea!. No device is going to correct grammatical errors but your claim was spelling. Everyone under the sun makes grammatical errors.  Yes, it has been explained that kids who can't get the basics, often can get the higher stuff taught to them. Kids in kindergarten are being taught Geometry and Algebra. Why? To teach them to compete with kids abroad. We may never be able to really compete with them but we need to try and get them where they can compete.  I have explained that my 13 year old son couldn't get the basics of Math and no matter how hard my husband and I worked with him; his brain isn't wired for basic Math but he can do Trig Algebra and Quad Equations. I can't even do those and you do realize that we use that type of Math everyday!
You want to keep kids in a rut and they are never going to be able to compete if we don't get with the times.
