First thing I was aware of this morning once arriving at the salt-mine, was the act of terrorism committed in Paris, France this morning, wherein muslim extremists used assault weapons to kill and execute workers at a satirical newspaper, and police. The body count is 12. A couple of police officers and the balance cartoonists and editors at the paper.

I expected to come here this evening and read something, anything about it; but instead I see nothing. . . Not a word. . . No comparisons to recent mass shootings committed in this nation, no comparisons to 9/11, nothing. . .

What the hell is wrong with you people????

By the way. . . breaking news (unconfirmed at this time) says that Paris authorities identified the 3 shooters, and have killed one of them and captured the other two 90 miles away from this mornings slaughter. . . (If you care).

I know, its France. . . but still. . . the ramifications surrounding what took place there today are huge, and global. . . :spooked:

I think that it is very important to know these things. I also believe that in the near future, people will have to go through metal detectors to enter a mall!

Brain freeze? It's been on the news non-stop all day long here. I first heard it at about 6:30 this morning on Morning Joe. As for me, I really wish sometimes that I could go back to the relative ignorance of living in southern WV where all the news was filtered by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and the local TV and radio stations, and I spent my spare time stargazing and sketching and reading and day dreaming. Now I live where I can't escape it, and add to that, I have a bit of a Mother Theresa complex (want to help all the poor sick lonely helpless people in the world, and by the way, get rid of all those gazillions of guns).

Police in Paris have made several arrests in connection with this event, and they are still looking for two brothers who are suspected of being the individuals firing on the site yesterday. . .

I have a life-long personal friend that is a cartoonist in the metro-Chicagoland area. He draws political cartoons for several local and national publications, and some have carried similar themes to that which is said to have sparked this event in Paris yesterday.

I had a long conversation with him last evening surrounding this incident, and he admits it has shaken him up a bit. His view?

BTW, this is my first opportunity to even post on here, with time to put any thought to this tragedy.

The world should be outraged!  Despite what some are saying, that it is the fault of Charlie Hebdo, it is the same people who flew into the twin towers.  They are seeking to strike terror into the hearts of those who do not believe they way they do.

I hope every cartoonist attacks back, and does not cower to these threats.  Your friend is absolutely right PH, "something is seriously fucked up"!

There was another shooting in Paris, a police officer and someone else. Supposedly no comparison to the terrorist attacks but who is to say.

Agree also

How long do you think it will be before it happens in a mall or school here, not long I imagine. I know we have had shootings before but the majority that I remember have not been by religious terrorists.
