Heard Frey had battled rheumatoid arthritis for a while.

He passed due to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia; which he had been battling since surgery in November. . . The last in that list is the old standby of the reaper. . .

And I am touched to read this, very high praise indeed, statement surrounding Glenn Frey's passing from non-other than Don Henley himself in Rolling Stone:

Quote

Glenn Frey's Eagles bandmate Don Henley has written a touching tribute to his friend, following the news of the guitarist's passing. "Glenn was the one who started it all," he wrote. "He was the spark plug, the man with the plan. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and a work ethic that wouldn't quit. He was funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven."

Frey died Monday due to "complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia," according to a statement from the Eagles. Henley wrote that the band members are still processing the death. "We are all in a state of shock, disbelief and profound sorrow," he wrote. "We brought our two-year History of the Eagles Tour to a triumphant close at the end of July and now he is gone.

"I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet," he continued. "It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life."

Elsewhere in the statement, Henley marveled at how he, Frey and the other Eagles kept going over the years. "He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction," the drummer and vocalist wrote. "But the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken, even during the 14 years that the Eagles were dissolved. We were two young men who made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles with the same dream: to make our mark in the music industry – and with perseverance, a deep love of music, our alliance with other great musicians and our manager, Irving Azoff, we built something that has lasted longer than anyone could have dreamed."

Henley also noted that Frey "loved his wife and kids more than anything" and signed off by addressing the guitarist and singer. "Rest in peace, my brother," Henley wrote. "You did what you set out to do, and then some."

At the end of the posting in social media, I was astonished to see the words to the following song posted. It was the exact song that sprang to mind when I first heard the news. . . And how fitting that Glenn sang it:

Perfect! I don't mind saying after the month I just went through this song puddled my eyes up....

Man I am going to miss him...fortunately I had the privilege to see them about three years ago and it was a great memory I will forever cherish.

I was very fortunate to not only see them live several times, but to share the last time I saw them with my son and his future wife. He was recently returned from deployment at the time, and sharing that event with him, even being able to share that event with him, made it all the more special to me. . .

Thanks for sharing that song PH...it is so appropriate for this moment....

I have to say Take it On The Run and Hotel California are two of many of my favorite Eagle's hits.

I've always liked the songs that carried a hispanic flavor to them; something I attributed to Frey since he usually sang them. It's Your World Now is among them, and a song I loved from the fist time I played the track on the Long Road Out Of Eden CD. (That was the tour within which I last saw the Eagles live).

Interestingly enough, Guitar Player Magazine carried a short article from Don Felder today, in which Felder graciously acknowledges Frey's role in the band, his own career, and his regret over never having mended the fences that stood between the two of them and resulted in his ouster. I was somewhat taken aback by the genuine admiration and regret he expressed in his statement, but I likely shouldn't have been. Felder has always been a man that wears his heart on his sleeve, and I admire him for it. . . But their "disagreements" ran deep and were vicious; nearly coming to blows on stage and back stage at times. . .

I hope the other band members choose to move on with their careers; even though most of them are well into their golden years. (I hate that term). Collectively they are each responsible for some classic works; together and separately. An event like this can drive a major recalibration moment for them though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some of them choose to go back to the barn and stay there. . . (Big loss to music fans in itself if that happens).

I personally cut my chops on some of their music as a young lad, but quickly moved on toward heavier fare. But at this stage in my life, I find my musical tastes as diverse as it has ever been, and admit to a heavy presence of Eagles works on my iPod and within my iTunes collection. (And CD collection as well).

One of things I very much look forward to when I cross over, is coming back and seeing the looks on the faces of my children and grandchildren, as they rifle through the hundreds of CD's in my personal collection and run across everything from CSNY, Black Sabbath, Lightening Hopkins, Junior Wells and No Doubt, to Zappa and Zeppelin; with many of the artists entire volumes being present. I bet the looks on the face of my son alone will be a source of eternal laughter to my eternal entity.   :big grin:

Shit!  :spooked:  I hope I don't ever have to move again. The boxes of CD's, vinyl , and books make my back hurt just thinking about it!  :spooked:

It must be an English Ford, since she's on the right hand side of the vehicle; assuming she is, as the song states, . . ."slowing' down to take a look at me. . ."

But it's close enough. . . The intention is quite clear. . .

Actually, to be honest, I like all the Eagle's hits. I don't honestly believe they had a bad song out there. If they do, I don't know it.
