Ya, I think someone who did drugs excessively, attended class, (college), sparingly, hung with the rough crowd, and played basketball constantly, (page 93 Dream From My Father), over that anytime.

:icon_twisted:

Since there has been so much conversation surrounding that particular page in which Obama supposedly confesses to doing drugs excessively, attending class sparingly, playing basketball constantly, and hanging out with the wrong crowd, I figured it would be interesting to read it straight from the horse's mouth.

So......I found myself out this afternoon and passing right by a branch of the Broward County Library.  Since I had a few minutes, I stopped by.  There was a copy of the book available, so I whipped out my library card, and borrowed the book.

Below are scans of pages 92-94, just so page 93 can be seen somewhat in the surrounding context.

Now that I have the book, and have three weeks to return it, I'll probably end up just going ahead and reading the entire thing.  That being said, I didn't see anything on p.93 that would lead anyone to believe the claims made in the quote on the first post in this thread.  :icon_twisted:

But you have to remember that 'me' is a 'special' case. It has been well documented that she .....

Read an article about the mini Ice Age (16th to 19th centuries) where it stated that it got so cold that grapes couldn't be grown in England. Then this person assumed that they were talking about current conditions and posted that "right now" they "can't grow grapes in England."

Read a few excerpts from Obama's book and then asserted that he was a slacker in college, even though it clearly stated that those events took place in high school.

Claimed that Romney's bullying of a gay student and forcibly cutting his hair took place in "grade school" when it was in his senior year of high school.

Claimed that the victim doesn't remember the incident, even though the victim died eight years ago, well before the incident became news.

Tried to weasel out of that statement by claiming she was talking about his parents. Never answered the question "are his parents even alive?"

Obama has been so clean in character and faithfulness since he went to Harvard and been married to the same woman for so many years.  The Republicans are looking, searching and reaching so far it is funny and ridiculous.

About the only thing they can pin on him is, he is black! O0.  Nice try scumbags.

Guys, I'm pretty sure Obama is one smart man, a great husband and an awesome daddy.  I think he is interesting to watch on TV doing interviews.  He seems very upbeat and has a great sense of humor.

I just think he is in over his head, and lacks leadership skills to turn our country around.  I don't agree with his economic agdenda or his energy agenda.

On that note, Troll, I think Romney has been a faithful husband and an excellent father to his children.  He too is candid and a very good speaker.

I think, he may have better leadership skills, as he has led success over his many companies he has worked for or owned.

I'm not cocky enough to say, hands down he will be better, but I think his ideas on how to turn the economy around are better and his energy ideas are more interesting to me.

Overall, I want him in, and Obama out.

IF, Obama wins, I hope he can lead us to better times, because I want what is best for my family.

that is my honest opinion....despite all the rhetoric that I have said in all the arguements on here.

That is the bottom line.

And what are those ideas, specifically?  He's spouting the same rhetoric almost verbatim that he did in his 2002 gubernatorial campaign and Massachusetts fared worse than almost every other state economically during his ensuing tenure.  Taxes went up (by virtue of increases in fees and closing "loopholes"), the state government grew and job creation was 47th out of 50 states in job creation.  He couldn't deliver on those promises at the state level; what makes you think he can at the national level?

Here are the facts:

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Massachusetts
                    (retrieved November 2008)

Massachusetts did better than the national average for 3 out of 4 years during Romney's term, and achieved better than half the unemployment rate that the nation suffers under now. Instead of criticizing Romney's jobs record, perhaps President Obama would be better served to try and learn something from it.

Governor Romney held firm and balanced the budget every year without raising taxes.    He fought to roll back the state income tax from 5.3% to 5.0% and created budgets based on a 5% income tax rate.    The legislature refused to reduce the tax rate, and by the end of his term, he had taken "Massachusetts from billions in deficit to billions in surplus".

He cut capital gains taxes, benefiting well over 150,000 residents. Thousands more are currently benefiting from new jobs in the biotech field because of Romney's manufacturing tax relief and because he made the investment tax credit permanent. Thousands of Massachusetts families saved their hard-earned dollars when Romney enacted sales tax holidays. Seniors are benefiting from property tax relief proposed and signed into law by Romney. Our honorable veterans and National Guard members have several new tax breaks because of Romney's belief that they should be taxed less. Commuters can now deduct expenses for travel because Romney believes they shouldn't be penalized for helping increase commerce.

During Governor Romney's tenure from 2003-7, Massachusetts dropped from 13th to 17th in national tax burden rankings.

Although Romney was not able to get any income tax cuts past the Democratic Legislature, he won other tax cuts totaling nearly $400 million, including a one-time capital gains tax rebate and a two-day sales tax holiday for all purchases under $2,500.

He cut state spending by $600 million, including reducing his own staff budget by $1.2 million, and hacked the largest government agency, Health and Human Services, down from 13 divisions to four.

He was able to accomplish a great deal all the while he was dealing with a veto-proof legislature that was 85% democrat!
