My faux pas, I meant Glen Beck.

Seriously, being a fan of American History, I was appauled at the way he was spoon feeding the facts as he interprets them. Anyone watching that program should do themselves a favor and simply go to the library or watch the History Channel.

Oh sure, watch the history channel.....Never mind that Beck had historians and the original history books. Sorry but you're going to have to do better than that.  Just an example of how history gets distorted, and this has been a bone of contention with me since I learned different, the Indians did not scalp the white man first.  I don't know about you but that is what I was taught in history class when I was in school and it just wasn't true.  That was not something I learned from Glen Beck that was something I learned when I happened to pick up an older original history book at the library when I used to read a lot.  Why did they change it?  Because they could.  Face it Sandy everyday you are bombarded with things that are not necessarily fact but have been tweaked just a little to make things fit a certain event or time period that needs a cover up or glorified.

When you read a book that say's *revised* that means something in it has been changed by the author.  You are such a stickler for "facts" go find an older or original book that hasn't been revised and look for the differences.

You have to be open to more than one source. I've never liked being spoon-fed one person's view of anything. I may have to watch again, I only caught the tail of the program and I didn't see anything that he used to support his "facts". He used cherry-picked quotes, but I didn't see him cite a source. When I can catch it, I will give it another try and verify his sources.

I enjoy researching so I can't relate to what you're saying about history changing b/c I haven't seen it. I've seen varied accounts and varied interpretations, but the meat is the same. Those who want to know the facts do. I wouldn't count on Beck to give them to me.

"History" is written by the victors, or those in control. Certainly all history should be researched if one desires to know the truth of the matter(s). Given the examples we encounter on the internet every day, it is rather obvious that many just want to read it once and move on. . . So consider the sources. . .

I didn't see much of last nights show because I was busy but usually he shows his verification of facts at the first of the show if he is only talking about one thing and those were probably quotes from a book that he had already shown and talked about earlier in the show. I know he was talking about indentured slavery and how that came about.

You may find this odd but I've never been to his website so I may have to do that myself.

Oh, you mean about how the rich land owners and factory owners would bring young boys and girls over to America and work and treat them like slaves?  Is that the indentured servitude slaves you're talking about?  We think searching our family  tree, some of my fathers side where brought to America as indenture workers.  My mother side were Pennsylvania Dutch, Dunkards (Amish)

The start of the union movement.  Yeah, I know about it.  So what about it?  You asked a part of the question, finish it and give me "your" answer, "ME".

Another thing about Beck he is so wrong, on some many things.  It's a given that a non-working clock has the right time two time a day.  On a lot of days Glenn Beck is wrong all day long.

Have you bought a GOLD COINS from old trustworhty Glen the gold salesman.  :rotfl:  :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Just as I thought, you have no clue.  Has nothing to do with anyone being brought to America and is entirely different than slavery and has nothing to do with factory owners because there were no "factories".

Really? Did you even bother to fact check it?

Here's one reference:

The legend has been repeated endlessly that the first blacks in Virginia were "indentured servants," but there is no hint of this in the records. The legend grew up because the word slave did not appear in Virginia records until 1656, and statutes defining the status of blacks began to appear casually in the 1660s. The inference was then made that blacks called servants must have had approximately the same status as white indentured servants. Such reasoning failed to notice that Englishmen, in the early seventeenth century, used the work servant when they meant slave in our sense, and, indeed, white Southerners invariably used servant until 1865 and beyond. Slave entered the Southern vocabulary as a technical word in trade, law and politics. (Robert McColley in Dictionary of Afro-American Slavery, Edited by Randall M. Miller and John David Smith, Greenwood Press, 1988 pp 281)

Here's another:

In the North, farming was not as important to the economy as it was in the South. Black slaves therefore worked in a wider variety of jobs. They provided skilled and unskilled labor in homes, ships, factories and shipyards.

Now you try one. Go on, you can do it. It's not hard.
