For a change today, well yesterday, my fb feed was mostly about the pipeline rather than political. It is just wrong what is going on there any way you look at it. I watched a young girl being arrested for simply burning sage and listened to a man talk about an 11 yr old who was killed by a sniper Fri and others who were badly bruised by rubber bullets including some who are elderly. I watched a live feed of some disturbing things one of my fb friends did, I do not know them offline btw. One of my offline friends knows someone who is there and she told me some things last night when I was with her about a lot of other things going on. How do those who are attacking these people even sleep at night?  :'(

Don't you know, these cops are having a party.     To day the cops are like a motorcycle gang.   They get their nuts off tearing up things, beating up people, gassing people, shooting people and killing people.  But to day the cops get away with it.

Will you computer savvy people, please tell me something.  How can a lap top computer hold 600,000 emails?  The FBI say they found over 600,000 emails on Weiner's lap top.   :huh1:                                                                                      :huh1:                                                                                        :huh1:

I am not sure but a computer can hold as much stuff as possible if one has the right memory to hold that stuff. Again, that is just a guess so maybe Abby or Locutus could tell you.

Well, without looking anything up, I think it would depend on the hard drive space.  I think a government laptop would have a large hard drive, maybe a tera byte size?  I'm not that computer savvy, so please correct me, Locutus!

I asked my husband who is somewhat computer savvy and he said that it would have to have a large hard drive like you stated Abby. It would have to a pretty large byte size to store all that.

Most networked systems reside on servers that store e-mails within. You can delete them from your e-mail program, (Outlook, etc.), but the actual data still resides within the server in most cases of a networked e-mail program.

In fact, cloud systems that many folks use to share e-mail with their portable devices work the same way, as does texting.

(I think I've got that correct but am sure someone wil point it out if I do not).

It's a mixture of network and hard drive but emails don't typically take up much space.

As Exterminator duly noted, emails don't typically take up much space, but I'll go a bit farther for you.  Email size varies due to a number of factors like number of attachments, etc., but just for simple purposes here, let's assume no attachments.

Nicholas Walker, who supposedly ran a statistical analysis of database emails back in 2009, found that the average length of an email is 3150 characters.  Each character, including spaces, is equal to one byte of computer storage.

So we can do the following math:

3150 bytes * 600,000 emails = 1,890,000,000 bytes  (or 1.8 gigabytes of storage)

My MacBook has 500GB of storage available on the hard drive, so as you can see, a computer could easily accommodate 600,000 emails taking Mr. Walker's average size as a premise.  ;D

Yep and disk space gets cheaper all of the time.  I have a terabyte drive in my desktop at home (that I call Watson Jr.  ) just for data.  My operating system and applications reside on 2 mirrored 120 GB solid state drives.

That is interesting to know and I knew someone would know the answer.

Yep.

Another way of looking at it is that you could fit all of those emails on 2gb thumb drive.  ;D

You can pick up one of those for less than 10 dollars.
