My girlfriend and I were visiting my aunt and uncle this morning for a bit.  We were sitting outside having coffee and donuts since the weather is abnormally cooler and breezier than normal.  There's a loud ass macaw in an outside cage at the house behind them.  Sometimes it would squawk pretty loud.  One time, we heard it squawk, "Uck U!  Uck U!"  What do you think it was trying say?  :icon_twisted:  ;D

Hahahaha, I had a supervisor who great guy said his daughter when little could not say "tr" words- it always came out "frain" for train, "frack" for track and "fuck" for truck. His mom was with them one time and she saw a truck and started saying fuck, fuck. he said his mom about died. Lol

On a totally different note, California Chrome won the Preakness today. He looked good and may stand a good chance of winning the Belmont and the Triple Crown.

Locutus

Yeah it was California Chrome again today, but there were others.  War Emblem, Smarty Jones, Big Brown, Funny Cide etc., are just a few who did the exact same thing, but couldn't finish it off.

Very true and the next test is a 1.5 miles and that is hard on most 3 year olds. I am still a believer that race horses shouldn't be started until they are 4 or 5, they are still very young at 2 and 3 to be running.

Locutus

100% spot on agree.  Their bones aren't even completely solidified at 3 from what I understand.

Nope, they aren't and you are talking about a 2 year old who turns 3 on January 1st. since all Thoroughbreds celebrate that day as their birthday so they aren't even a teen-ager in horse years, 2 they are 6 years old and 3 they are 9 years old. They are putting approximately 1200-1400 pounds on an ankle that is 1/4 inch in diameter and can snap with the wrong step down. I am into Arabian horses and most of them are not broke until they are 4 or 5 as that is when they are fully matured. The Thoroughbred is a descendant of the Arabian.

Part of me thinks there's more than a little wrong with making a sport out of such a risk to the animal.

There is back when the Ky. Derby first started in 1875, Thoroughbreds were heavier and bigger, the people decided that they wanted a lighter horse and not as heavy. This is the reason we see so many of them broke down and not performing and they end up in slaughter houses. Thank Goodness for equine rescues who step in and save these beautiful horses and then give them a chance to become adopted, granted some of them go on to another type of show career such as jumpers/ hunter jumpers, dressage horses or just a plain horse for someone to have to ride. I am a huge advocate of equine rescues. I am sure people will probably find that strange since I live in the horse racing state but there are many of us who are tired of seeing Thoroughbreds, American Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walkers and other show horses break down so easily.

Purplelady1040

You know Locutus, it is the same with Greyhound racing- the slow dogs are sometimes put down but at least there are rescue groups for them also. Have a friend who has adopted 3-4 of the Greyhounds, they are the biggest couch potato dogs that I have ever seen.

Well, looks like the big fish are just going to keep getting bigger. . . AT&T is buying Direct-TV and the combined company will make it the 2nd largest pay-TV company in the nation. . . (Right behind Comcrap).

This will be another case of "triple play" bullshite that will drive prices up unless you "bundle" services. . .

AT&T currently has one of the most expensive plans out there for cell phones and tablets, charging 100 bucks a month for 10GB of shared data, plus 10 bucks for each tablet and 40 bucks for each smart phones. And it goes up from there.

Right now I have 2 smart phones and one tablet that use my cell plan. Unlimited calling, texting and data for 160 bucks a month. Going with AT&T would jack that bill up by at least 20-30 bucks a month, plus restrict my devices to 10GB of data each month. That's horse shit. Plus I'd be willing to bet that in order to get bundle pricing I'd have to obtain a "home phone" as well, which would further increase the monthly charges.

I already have Direct-TV and am outside of my contract period; so I am paying through the teeth for television right now anyway.

PH, I thought AT&T already had bought Direct-TV-at least they are owned by that here.

Nope. Direct TV has been bundling packages to include internet (AT&T) with satellite television service. AT&T began allowing it due to the fact that DTV has no internet offering, and AT&T's U-Verse on the TV side has been very problematic in some areas.

The problem with all of it is that AT&T's internet speeds are snail like in comparison to other providers, like Comcast (Comcrap), which has offerings up to 105MBps compared to AT&T's paltry 6MBps at its top level.

In my household, that kind of snail like internet speed would NOT be acceptable at all. Thusly, I am forced to deal with Comcrap. . . (Who, BTW, bought Time Warner recently).

Okay, we have DirectTV and I know that they are owned by AT&T here but we no longer have a landline but Comcast is crap. There are no competitive cable companies around at all unless we go with Dish who I don't want.
