  Detroit's Special Respose Team (SWAT) at 12:40am in the dark of night broke into a house of Innocent people.  First by thowing a flash band grenade and breaking the door down.  In the process of a so called search warrant killed a 7 year old girl sleeping of a couch.  Shooting her through the neck with a 357 hand gun.

  The police forced the father to lay down with his face in the daughter's blood.  After handcuffing her grandmother.  These cops are thugs and killers.

  The officers involved were place on paid Holiday.

  When is this insanity going to be stopped.  These SWAT teams are killers.

If not, I can post it later. I read the story yesterday. IMO it's  completely a sickening story of incompetance. The police spokesperson is doing a fine tap-dance in an attempt to make it sound like an honest mistake, but it sounds as if it were poorly planned from get-go.

Again, I am not defending these assbags.......they totally screwed up, and unfortunately innocent people was killed.  There are NO excuses whatsoever for them...and they should be held 100% accountable...

but, there are hundreds and hundreds of SWAT encouters every year that go unnoticed for the great jobs that they DO do...and countless number of lives are saved for their expertise....it is episodes like this one that completely give all of the other events a bad name....I still have a great deal of respect for the vast majority of men and women who put law enforcement as their career choice....

This is a perfect example of my issue with  any news source which doesn't give the complete news. This is also a perfect example of why I get my news from a variety of sources.

A 7-year-old girl was shot and killed when an officer's gun went off during a struggle with a woman in a house where Detroit police were searching for a suspect in the slaying of a teenager, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.
Assistant Chief Ralph Godbee said at a news conference Sunday that Aiyana Jones was hit in the neck by a single bullet and died at a hospital.

"This is any parent's worst nightmare. It also is any police officer's worst nightmare," Godbee said.

Godbee reportedly said officers with the department's Special Response Team set off a flash grenade as they entered the home about 12:40 a.m. Sunday with a warrant to look for a suspect in the Friday slaying of a 17-year-old boy.

The lead officer encountered a 46-year-old woman immediately inside the front room of the house and "some level of physical contact" ensued during which the officer's gun went off, according to the station. The officers had reportedly identified themselves as police.

Godbee said Sunday that the shooting was being investigated and all information was preliminary.

"We cannot undo what occurred this morning," he said. "All we can do is to pledge an open and full investigation and to support Aiyana's family in whatever way they may be willing to accept from us at this time."

The officers had a search warrant and were looking for a 34-year-old man suspected in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jarean Blake.

Blake, a student at Southeastern High School, was gunned down Friday by a store in front of his girlfriend. Blake stumbled across the street, collapsed and died, police said.

Officers arrested the suspect inside the home where Aiyana was shot, Godbee said.

"This is a tragedy of unspeakable magnitude to Aiyana's parents, family and all those who loved her," Godbee said. "It is a tragedy we also feel very deeply throughout the ranks of the Detroit Police Department."

The implication here is that the little girl's death is a tragedy, but mostly the parent's fault for harboring a fugative.

The Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality called the girl's death "the pain of pains" in a statement issued Sunday and questioned what protocols police used in the raid. The coalition said it would host a candlelight vigil Sunday evening at the home where she was shot.

This one makes it sound as if the suspect was arrested somewhere else, maybe the same building, but different apartment which was also being raided.

Fieger called the explanation from police "entirely false."

"Of course, I have seen the videotape and the videotape vividly portrays the fact that a percussion grenade device was thrown through the front window and a shot was fired immediately from the outside from the porch," he said.

"No murder suspect was found in Aiyana's house," Fieger said in Monday's interview. "In fact, there's an upstairs apartment next door which the police did not have a search warrant for and that is where he surrendered, they went into that house too. But he was not in Aiyana's house."

If you read the entire story, apparently there's a video tape which shows most of this, but even so, this story is a little bit different.

There's a ton of logical explainations why these stories are all different, deadlines, irresponsible journalism, source reliablity, writing style of the journalist, etc., and that's why it's not a good idea to rely on one source, because as you can see here, you'll walk away w/incomplete and/or inaccurate information.

The impression that I have now? The police department is trying damage control, the family is looking for retribution and the press doesn't know what the hell happened.

Source 1 is in direct conflict with 2 & 3 and 2 & 3 overlap, but also differ on some points.

The only thing for sure is that a child lost her life over the uncontrolled firing of a firearm during a police action. Who fired the weapon and under what circumstances? The truth may never be known, but one has to hope that if the shot was fired by a police officer he/she will be held accountable for this. . .

At any rate I agree with your statement that if they hadn't let them into the home it might have been avoided.  They were actually harboring a criminal and someone else lost a child at his hand.  Its so sad that an innocent child lost a life over what he did.
