We knew about it.  It was in the Patriot Act, but it was not taken to this extreme, and its INTENT was for National Security.  With the recent events of our IRS attacking "conservative" groups.....the "INTENT" seems as if it may very well be "LIKELY" that it is being misused for political power.  The level of trust of our government has deminished greatly.
Not only did we just realize that EVERY cell phone activity by Verizon is being monitored by this government, ATT and Sprint are also under the watch of "Big Brother". 
I think it is becoming too excessive to the point where it is un-American....

Had the IRS scandal not been so destructive, but throw in the AP scandal, the cover-up in Benghazi, Fast and Furious....TRUSTING our Government to do the "right" thing is not something many Americans are willing to do any further....I am included in this.
