You know, I have read through this thread more than participated today and the only thing I see is bad mouthing and name calling from Ex rather than anything useful as far as contribution.  I think the whole problem is not that Obama is speaking to the school kids but rather how it was presented.  He was going to have the kids do a written report on how they could help Obama...What was that all about?  No other president has ever done that.  Help Obama do what?  Yes, it good for the president to speak to kids but don't be so big brother about it do it like the other presidents did and not in a self serving manner as he is appearing to do.  A lot of the distrust for him is coming from the people he has surrounding him and that he is taking advice from, self proclaimed communists and radicals.  You all know darn well that if any other president had done that you would be flaming him all over the place white or black so what is so different here?  Why can no one oppose his ideologies without being called a racist?  Please explain that to me.  Whites who oppose him are called racist and blacks who oppose him are called jealous.  What is with that?  What is with all the cussing and name calling belittling and slamming?  Why is it necessary?  Can't you just discuss?  Does it give you the feeling of power to call names and cuss?  PH discusses, pariann discusses, even at times Bo D discusses, and Sandy, well she just makes light of it, but Ex just name calls and belittles to the point where no one can discuss.  Since when has it become a crime to disagree with the president or his agenda?  Ya'll were perfectly fine with disagreeing with Bush's policies and things he did and no one tried to stop you.  I didn't see Bush, Clinton, or any of the others trying to shut down talk shows with opposing views or asking you to report on anyone who disagreed or as he put it was "misinformed". Could it be the methods used are making people suspicious of underlying intentions?  We are being manipulated more than ever before and I for one don't like it.  If you think we're not being manipulated stand back and look from an observer position.  Think about what has gone on for the last year and a half or two years.  Do some real checking on George Soros and ACORN.  No, I'm not tying them together I'm saying they are both factors in whats going on. 
I'm done now.  I know I've just wasted my time posting this because you'll all just say I'm an idiot or what ever but so be it.  I can only do so much.  Hang in there Henry don't let them get you down.

I don't have a problem with President Obama addressing the school children, but the government suggesting assignments seems a little beyond his scope, I thought that was the teacher's job? Are grade school children and high school students getting the same speech?

I just got a message from the school district and our schools will be airing it live as scheduled. Any child who is absent without a valid excuse such as a Drs appt will have an unexcused absence. If the parents have any questions or concerns, they are asking that they put them in writing and either email or mail them to the district address. They are asking that parents not call the school or district and voicemails will not be returned. :biggrin:

Simple question requiring an honest and simple answer.  What if the school had done this when Bush was President?  How would you have reacted and what would you have said?   I don't want one of those "but he" answers I want to know what your reaction would have been.

That is false.  Nothing was ever mentioned about an assignment for this.  The only place where I did see an assignment was from Scholastic.com

If Bush would have done this, I would have gotten the transcript so that my students could correct the grammar and phonetics of his speeches.
