I like mine from a can!

That's generally where I get mine too.  ;D

In southern states, morels are often called "dry-land fish". The most common method of cooking them is to dip in a milk-egg mixture, batter (Ma uses Frying Magic, salted & peppered), and fry in butter or margarine. Feel your arteries clogging? That's what I have to look forward to tomorrow evening. I think Ma would just as soon hunt them as eat them, and she LOVES to eat 'em! As for me, they're delicious, but if I get one good meal of them a year, I'm fine with that. The season usually lasts two weeks or so, then you have to travel north to find more. Michigan is morel heaven! Do mushrooms grow in sandy Florida soil?

Dry-land fishing! That's what my Paw called it. He would gather up us boys and we would hike up  into the mountains behind the house to get them. And then we would have a feast!!!!!

I found them on a menu at a VERY fancy French restaurant in DC not long ago. They were très expensive but I got them anyway.

I took my pruning loppers out to the woods today to wage war with the  grapevines that exist to strangle my trees and elevate my blood pressure. I was busy excising the gnarly buggers from existance when I noticed a nice gray morel just in front of me. Where there's one, there may be a bunch, so I decided I'd better watch my step. Good thing, too; I was just about to bumble into a nice patch of black sponges. They look just like the one Locutus posted last night, but with a duller, darker color. I dispatched Ma to the mother lode, and she came back with 40 in a few minutes. Says she's going back out later to try for a few more. The weather report for the next week promises excellent conditions for fungus finding. We'll keep you posted, if you're interested.

Good find!

I have some sort of vine growing up over my fence.  I need to do something to get rid of it.  I'm a little afraid of it because last year I saw a snake come out from under it.     I don't like snakes!
Take time to smell the roses.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are optimal weather conditions for fungi growth?
