Well, those little books are in the mail for residents of the Evergreen State.  They look like income tax books, but they are actually much more interesting.  Before each election, every voter receives a voters guide listing the candidates for each office and giving them each an opportunity to explain their platform and positions.

Since the state has now gone to a "Top 2" primary system, all voters receive the same ballot regardless of party affiliation.  All candidates are listed along with party preference.  The top two vote-getters (regardless of party) will advance to the general election in November.  As I was filling out my mail-in ballot over the weekend for the August primary, I was amused with some of the candidates with their hats in the ring.  So here are a few for your mutual amusement.

U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 7
Goodspaceguy Nelson (prefers Democratic Party)
Goodspaceguy believes that the number one problem on Spaceship Earth is the tripling of people during the last hundred years. We numerous, brainy humans are exterminating wilderness and wildlife. Instead of starvation, genocide, and war, we should use nicer methods (such as the head tax and birth fees and study and work and social security) to decrease the number of people boarding Spaceship Earth. Goodspaceguy is pro choice on almost everything.

Goodspaceguy wants Orbital Space Colonization to be one of the great tasks for our new 21st Century. Through NASA, we have already paid the necessary money for the start of an Earth orbiting space colony, but our leaders have not been educated in orbital space colonization, and, therefore, they have wasted and are wasting much money. After profitable success in Earth orbit, we should then build additional profitable colonies in orbit around the Moon and Mars, where solar power is also plentiful.

Mark Goldman(No Party Preference)
I rise to defend the moon and stars, the air we breathe, the oceans and the rivers, the plants, and all living things upon this our Mother Earth... and you... and your children... and your sacred poem... before the salmon die, before the birds stop singing; before the bees forget how to fly.

The attacks upon the Earth, the betrayal of our fellow human beings and the assault upon decency itself must not be tolerated any longer. Justice is dying, honor is wounded, and now in the turmoil of everyday life many of us have become blind and deaf to the weeping and the pain. We cannot allow this to continue. Listen to your own heart.

Al Schaefer (No Party Preference)
Ask your Senator to introduce a Bill to review 9/11 Press for Truth documentary. I propose these actions to correct injustices. With your help our proposals flower. Combined, with God's help, our union can become tranquil again.

GOVERNOR
Mohammad Hassan Said (No Party Preference)
Finally I would like to sound the alarm, that AIPAC and other Jewish Zionist Lobbies who represent less than 2% of American People are using the United States through their mighty power in the News Media, Financial Institutions, Hollywood and Entertainment Industry, Both Political Parties, Congress and the White House as Proxy to wage war against any country perceived to be threat to Israel, like in Iraq. This will lead us into conflicts for generations with Arab and Muslim World. This has got to stop!

This Movement Campaign to get back our country from being influenced by foreign governments. This way we honor our founding father, George Washington's farewell speech 1796, "Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of the Republic Government."

Those are some of the top races.  I'll post a few more in the coming days.  Or you can see the entire slate at http://wei.secstate.wa.gov/osos/en/Pages/OnlineVotersGuide.aspx#ososTop.

While they seem like nutjobs, at least they have the resolution to put their money where their mouths are I guess.
