Quote from: Palehorse on August 03, 2019, 09:15:02 PM.  .  . And "we" have the nerve to be indignant and angry at every single law abiding firearm owner in the nation, each time one of these socially and economically marginalized individuals looses their sanity, gets a firearm, and goes off like that man did in El Paso Texas today? "We" allowed this to happen when we allowed our government to be bought by the highest bidders. How is punishing those who already abide by the laws in place going to make any of these situations go away?

It won't, but your government wants you to think so; and it has worked as a panacea for 50 years now. Until the next mentally ill and marginalized individual goes off.

Newsflash! If you take all of the guns away, they'll use knives, hoes, shovels, pitchforks, rocks, fertilizers and diesel fuel. . . The list is endless. But if you take away the firearms from private citizens then only those in government and criminals will have them. How safe do you think you and your family will be then?. . .

First off, here's the Second Amendment verbatim: "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

A: It speaks of keeping and bearing of arms in the context of a State Militia.  The phrasing of that cannot be construed otherwise.  The punctuation itself even shows that - comma's as opposed to semi-colons.

It also does not define 'Arms' which, though it may be construed as meaning firearms - and single shot ones at that, may mean - or even be exclusive to - arms such as knives, tomahawks, clubs etc. and not firearms.

B. Even should one ignore the context of a Militia and argue for an all encompassing right to bear arms, single shot rifles/shotguns/pistols would be the extent of ownership in the historical context.

The point in gun regulation is to limit the amount of carnage that can be done in small amounts of time.  That means that if you subscribe to personal gun ownership, all that should be available to people are those single shot firearms.  For hunting or self-defense that's all that's necessary - especially when all other firearms are illegal for personal ownership and it's enforced.

C: As far as the unfounded NRA meme about .gov then having all the weapons, so what.  The populace even as currently armed couldn't stand off the military if the military decided to ignore the Constitution or it's historical prohibition against internal action.

Although that sounds like an honorable way....the guys that are in favor of this are not the violent kooks who shoot up random people....the folks who are nutty enough to kill random people will merely find a way to do it...if not by guns, they will use homemade pressure cookers or ammonium nitrate fertilizer or drive a vehicle into a crowd...

We need to figure WHO the nutjobs are....why is this so hard to explain to a liberal?  Banning guns is simply wrong.

A militia was comprised of individuals, male at the time it was written, that were called up to serve in times of crises within a given state or the nation itself. They were asked (expected) to bring their personal firearms to first muster.

Single shot is period specific and an assumption. One not specified at all. Moreover extending that same methodology toward every aspect of the constitution would serve to accentuate that. And just imagine if in 2019 our states were called upon to enlist the help of its citizenry to defend it citizens against an armed opponent or threat with single shot weaponry. Especially when said threat was armed with muti shot, high capacity mags and even fully automatic weaponry.

I can go along with his premise IF those guns are kept in an armory and only accessible during training and military action.

The Troll

Forcing the Americans to single shot rifles and shotguns is just like the Kurds fighting the Turkey's military with jet aircraft, tanks and trained soldiers.  They don't have a chance in hell to win and they are going to be murdered by the thousands.  Oh yes, thanks Trump you murdering son of a bitch.

BTW --  Have you seen the up tick in stabbings and cuttings lately.      Are we going to band knifes and or have them registered.

Mr442

My wife was glad to have multiple rounds in her semi auto handgun the day she was home alone and some POS kicked the locked door open.  She fired, he ran after a short time of being pinned down around the corner of our home.  Glad it was more than a single shot, and it wasn't locked up in some armory.

We both carry everyday, as is our our right that is guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.

The point is that you can hardly commit mass murder in a short period of time with a knife as you can with a semi or fully automatic firearm.

1. Apocryphal tales like yours are invariably dragged out when the issue of gun control pops up.  They are primarily false, and are FAR outweighed by indisputable episodes of murder and injuries by semi-automatic firearms.

2. The Second Amendment is not a right to carry.

3. At least half of the population is sub-100 IQ who will operate on emotion and not intelligence and you gun nutbags want them armed.  And you gun nuts wonder why all the gun violence - of course you think the violence is basically racial.
