A New Village where?

I have for some time said jokingly that pretty soon my home may be under an off ramp of I-95.  Well, by golly, there may be some truth in that. About a week ago, in the Local Living section of the Washington Post, there was this:

With TSA's move, new village rises near I-95.

I have to laugh at the use of the word "village" to describe the area where that is going to happen. It means that "The Federal Transportation Security Administration plans to move its headquarters from Pentagon City to Springfield in 2020, bringing 3,400 jobs and two key extensions to a part of  Fairfax County that has been waiting for years for a makeover." That means the FBI will also most likely move here also.  (to be continued -- it's late and I need to get some sleep.)

The Mixing Bowl!  ;D
Well. Hello Locutus. Earlier today I was writing an  answer to you when I dropped my mouse into some water and had to go buy a new one. And a few minutes ago I lost what I was writing. Anyway, one more time:

Yes, the Mixing Bowl! What is being proposed is stunning. I live in what used to be a forest -- a large community of homes and townhouses, with a lot of trees still here -- just a few miles away from the Mixing Bowl area of I-95 and the Beltway. And over on the other side of I-95 is the area they're talking about: Springfield Mall, and a large industrial area. What is especially mind-boggling  is the plan to build a connection to Northern Virginia Community College, which is in Annandale.

Sounds like you're in for a traffic increase at a minimum.

Yes, since this  this county (Fairfax) is also home to Ft. Belvoir -- just a few miles east -- and National Airport and the Pentagon.  A lot of military live in the area. It is truly amazing how well traffic (locals) manage to get to and from work with as few wrecks as we have. That's partly because those who drive (a lot are military based at the Pentagon) pick up riders so they can they can get in the HOV lanes.

Wednesday was a worse than usual traffic day here. There were, I think, 6 bad wrecks on the beltway in Maryland, and one awful one just a few miles from where I live. It was on a road that runs parallel to I-95 - at the intersection of the fire station and the entry/exit for the county parkway. All anybody knew was that the road was closed. Period. And we had to exit on the east bound road. I spent quite a while driving around in neighborhoods I was familiar with until  found a way to turn around and go back and circle and finally get back home. There was nothing about it on the news, but finally found out from my next door neighbor, who manages a business nearby, that a tattoo artist who also had a shop in the area pulled out in front of a big tractor trailer. It took about 5 hours to get his body out and the mess cleaned up.

Nothing ties up traffic for hours like a good fatality.

That happens all the time in South Florida.
