I know Borax works outside but for some reason we are getting invaded really bad this year.  I keep the dishes washed up, bleach the counter top a couple of times a day, keep chips and such in storage containers, and sweep the floor to make sure there are no food crumbs but it does no good, they just keep coming.  I've had some people who tried this tell me it worked so thought I'd pass it along.  I poured what was left on some new ant hills I found outside after placing the cotton balls in various places in the house since we've seen them in the bedrooms as well as the bathroom.
