The peoples bank accounts  in Cyprus are facing a 10 tax off the top.  Do you think it could happen here in USA?  Or are you willing to kick in 10% more of your money for the greater good?

Locutus

In a word, no.  The economy of Cyprus is smaller than that of the state of Vermont.  I doubt any of their actions are going to be precedent setting, hence the rather ho-hum reaction of global investors to the news of the levy.

But I'm sure that's not what the talking heads are saying on Faux News.  ;D

I believe that we will see something like it.  We are broke and can not go on like this for ever.  No doubt they will be slick about it, the end result will be we will lose out.  There is already talk of talking the pool of 401K money. Big bankers of any country are not to be trusted.

1. I've previously addressed this sort of fear mongering from the likes of you:

Attention you RW idjits! We are no longer on the Gold Standard!

Cyprus' monetary system is the Euro and the Cyprus does not print their own money.

2. Of course you can't trust bankers/Wall Street/Commodities Exchange/Corporations and that's why they must be stringently and actively regulated and monitored - I actually promote putting an end to the corporate fiction - something you RW idjits normally can't and won't abide.  We must have consumer protection in the 'super strength' version.

No one said anything about the gold standard!  We would however be better off on the gold standard.

Jee-zus!  I have to remember when I'm speaking to ignorance.

The point was that we haven't been on the GS for decades and in your ignorance you act like we are when you compare the Cyprus situation to us.  You weren't even informed enough to see why I brought up the GS.

We use a fiat currency and print our own money and are NOT under GS restrictions as Cyprus is under the Euro.  Ergo, which is why the comparison you regurgitated from your RW Noize Machine is pure unadulterated bull-pucky...

...and folks like you wonder why terms like ill-informed, illiterate, uneducated and so on are tossed your way.  If there ever was a dumb electorate, it's you RW reactionary sheeple.

But if too much money is printed we go into hyper inflation because there is nothing to back it up and there is a glut of it out there.  Ok, so you make $30pr hr so what's the difference if a loaf of bread is gonna cost $5 and a gallon of milk $10?  Some will still have while others will not and nothing has been accomplished except having to carry more money with you all the time.

Yeah, but there's no indication that inflation, much less hyper-inflation, is rearing it's ugly snout...unless you want to talk about the deliberate manipulations of the commodities market to gouge the American public.

Fuel and food etc..
It costs more to deliver the food to the store because of the gas prices so naturally the cost is being passed on to the consumer.  Other things have gone up too.
