The report released Tuesday identifies Vanderburgh County as Indiana's largest donor county, meaning residents here send more tax money to Indianapolis than state government returns to the county.

In the last fiscal year, Vanderburgh County taxpayers contributed $218.6 million — or $1,251.08 per resident — more to the state than the county got back in funding.

While it is unfortunately true that urban counties must carry rural counties when paying for state funded expenditures, we here in the Devil's Playground feel like we've been mugged a little too often.
