Sometimes, you just have to wait for the truth to come out...

In the run-up to the last election, there was an incident involving the breakaway republic of Georgia being "attacked" by Russian troops.  With little in the way of actual knowledge on their side, all of the usual neocon warmongers were quick to blame Russia with Sarah Palin (who could see the conflict from her house) saying, "For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep...our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there."

McCain followed with, "[Putin] has exhibited most aggressive behavior, obviously, in Georgia. . . .We have to make the Russians understand that there are penalties for these this kind of behavior, this kind of naked aggression into Georgia, a tiny country and a tiny democracy."

Their followers lined up in lockstep behind them.

Obama did no saber rattling, instead urging restraint on both sides and was immediately labeled a coward by the right.

A recent investigation by the EU puts the blame for starting the war squarely on Georgia, not Russia.  We should all be glad that those two loons with their propensity for knee-jerk reactions aren't running the country and that someone evenhanded is.

Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

It is also refreshing that obama is reevaluating his position on Afghanistan.  I think we need to invite the Russians to join us in Afghanistan to the tune of about 100,000 troops and all their weaponry.  They should join up with us on the Western side and we should march East, until we reach Islamabad, killing every Taliban and Al Quida group along the way.  Russia gets a little payback for their losses in the 80's and we hopefully kill Bin Laden.  No need to stop on the Eastern borders, just keep going on into Pakistan, killing all we can.  When we reach Islamabad and bin laden isn't dead; turn around and go back until he is.

Of course, this blood-lust fantasy won't happen, so I think we should just get the hell out instead of winding up like Russia did, before us; just another super power defeated by a country that isn't worth anything to anyone, in any way.
