You want to pray in public, then be prepared to be mocked, publicly.  Pretty funny.  "God doe not play dice" (Einstein), but will take sides and bet on football games..., especial when asked to help by prayer...

I chuckled gleefully, Dan, and thank you for the post. But since we are quoting physicists, remember Stephen Hawking said, "It is not clear that intelligence has any long-term survival value." I fear the True Believers may be lighting the torches and sharpening the pitchforks to storm your castle.

"And we pray to our Lord, who we know is American.
He reigns from on high, and speaks to us through little men.
And he shepherds his flock, we sing out and we praise his name.
He supports us in war, and he presides over football games.
And the right will prevail, all our troubles shall be resolved.
We have faith in the Lord, unless there's money or sex involved!"

I started to throw up that the Neaderthals, and their demise, might contraindicate Hawking's supposition.  However, they are still among us, and probably in charge, at least in the cathedrals (and NASCAR/Pro-raslin domains).
