This story has so many openings for smart-ass commentary I don't know where to start. It's a pity that a couple of people were injured, but the things the story doesn't tell us are driving my inquiring mind crazy. Like ... was she there to renew her license?

I'd say if she was it's not gonna happen now.

Santiago

First thing I noticed was her age.  That and the crash would almost assure she won't be getting a renewal if that's why she was there.  Interesting, but not surprising the accident was not reported in today's  Vincennes newspaper.

Maybe she was digging in her purse for the utility bill (having already found her birth certificate and last year's W-2) and got distracted.

This is a common, everyday occurrence in FL.  No one should be driving at 87 and the old farts in FL kill a lot of pedestrians.  Anyone over the age of 65 should be required to test annually, including motor skills and not just eyesight.  I know an 85 year old driver in GA that failed their testing (and is also legally blind due to cataracts), but was able to go to FL, as a part-time resident, and get a license; a danger to us all.
