We are driving out to Kansas City on Saturday, and I will ride this beauty back on Sunday.  It's a 1996 BMW R1100RT with only 48k on the odometer.  I wanted to get something new, but didn't want payments.  So I started looking at used and found this one.  Low mileage for that year of that bike, good service records, and only two owners.  Even if I have to repair something later, I'll still be ahead by not making payments.

Now the wife can ride with me again.  While we are not huge people, we had outgrown the Honda's size, and needed a full size touring bike.

And that's another thing.  My old Honda did not like wet weather.  It would cut out and sometimes stop running completely in the rain.  Never have cured it completely.  So if this one will run in the rain, I won't mind it if it does rain.  I'll just put on the rain gear and keep going with a big ass smile.

I'll have it well insured before we head out, and I'll be on full alert for those "cages".   

BMW still uses springs on the RT series, even today.  Starting in 1994 the front went to the Telelever suspension system, and rear is the Paralever.  While the rear is not all that trick, the front is.  And yes, they ride like a dream, but are still capable of carving up the curves.

Other than an inital blast of Interstate highway to get out of town, we are taking the state roads home.   I think it will allow for better get aquainted time, than a full on Insterstate blast for 400+ miles.  And while 400+ on an unfamiliar bike might sound like much, it has to sit and ride better than the old Honda, and I can do 300+ on it with minimal pain.
