So I've decided to start my new years resolution early. I've embarked on a new, extreme training program that I've come up with to get myself back to who I see myself as.
Back in 2001 I hurt my back and was on disability, eventually I wasn't able to go back to construction anymore. What I could do (in abundance) was drink beer and eat pizza at 4am. Combine that with the pain pills the doctors had me on and I became a regular couch potato. Now before I was hurt, I would work 10-12 hours and then go lift weights afterwards. My metabolism was very high and I was able to maintain for awhile. But the alcohol and junk food finally kicked my ass. I blew up to almost 400lbs. (started a lean 265lbs) Well, along comes my daughter and I found other things to do besides party all night. Still didn't have time to focus on getting into shape. Between now and then I would bounce between 350 and 290.
Now keep in mind I never saw myself as big. That is the trick, you never know exactly how big you are untill you see yourself in pictures. Then you try to tell yourself, "Naw, that was a bad angle"
I've come to the truth that I need to turn the key and get back to being BigPoppaPope. I've knocked off 40lbs so far and have conditioned myself to go to the gym no matter if I don't want to. I will post a before and after picture when I reach my goal. By my calculations I should be at 265 by May.
I found the principles I used to quit smoking work with getting into shape. Keep telling yourself that no excuse is accepted, you are stronger than your objective and you will master yourself or die.

Stay tuned.....

Good luck!  Losing weight is the hardest thing I think most people try and do.  It would be nice if it went away as easily as it arrived!  Keep us posted on your progress!

Good luck Pope and let us know how it goes.

So how is it going?  I'll be joining you on the "get fit" saga!

Put it in a holding pattern until tuesday. Although I did put in one hell of a workout this after noon. I was completely spent by the time I left.

So how are you getting the numbers to come down?  I have to lose 2 lbs every two weeks to stay in the program I'm in.  Sounds easy but my weight keeps fluctuating!!  GRRRRRR!

It's different for a man, but basically I'm gaining more muscle which increases my calorie need, by simply maintaining a "normal" guys calorie intake the fat weight is being used as energy.

By the way I rejoined the 350 plus bench club today.

Excellent!  I feel like I'm taking in less calories and obviously working out more - or at all! haha But I'm not budging.  My friend wants me to join a running club at the gym with her.  They said at the meeting last night that in 12 weeks, I will be trained and ready for a 5K.  I'm a little bit skeptical about it, but we'll see.
