Flight 33

It's 2300 hours (11:00 pm ).  The  strange, and almost soothing nearby jungle sounds of night birds and creatures are all I hear as I smoke a cigarette just outside the Emergency Room glass doors.

Looking up into the warm night sky I see a million stars.  And remember the nights of girl friends and cruising 'The Boulevard', and listening to Wolfman Jack's 'Oldies But Goodies' songs.
"Are your peaches sweet?",  Wolfman Jack would ask on the late night air waves in between songs.  How we would laugh at his outrageous statements.
And then make love in our vehicles while Wolfman played music and over saw us, so to speak.

A distant siren interrupts my dream and I come back to reality.
Ah yes, the earlier radio report from an incoming ambulance.

A gun shot wound in the hand.
I flick my cigarette butt and head back into the ER.
Sure enough the ambulance pulls up.
and a patient with a blood stained wrapped bandage on his hand is pulled out on a gurney from the ambulance and rolled into the ER.  I direct it toward a treatment area and have the curtains pulled.
By now I have contacted the ER Intern, Duty Nurse, and Officer of The Day.
So far, I'm still in charge.
I examine the patient, and his wound.
Unwrapping the affected area, the patient's hand, right if I remember.  I find a through and through hole in the palm area.  There is no profuse bleeding.
I prep the affected area with Betadine and prepare it for surgery.
I will insert an IV needle of.....a blood volume expander.....1.000mililterrs.

If I am not relieved shortly.

Thank God the Flippino Medical intern arrives to help and takes over.  Soon after the Duty Nurse brings certain medications.  But it's the Flippino Intern who takes charge and treats the wounded patient.
He washes the wound thoroughly.
Injects IV solutions
Injects antibiotics
sutures the wounds.
Monitors patient reaction and behavior.
Writes for Doctor's Notes and Orders.

Author's Notes:

I could have sutured the wound, ordered antibiotics, and inserted the IV needle if forced to.  What, you expect a nineteen year old kid to do all this?
Thank God No.

PS.; I did it.
