I received info in the mail Saturday for another Grand Tour sponsored by the AMA and KOA, and managed by the Midnight Riders of Kokomo.  I have started the planning already, as this looks like another fun tour.  Damn glad I bought the wing, as this is gonna require some serious mileage/seat time.  Looks like I will be covering most of Indiana, and parts of Ohio and Illinois as well.

We are also planning a ride to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this summer, so I may be able to grab a couple of those Ohio locations on that trip.  I'm guessing that I'll be replacing tires before the season is over

Now, who ordered this F'n snow????

On Saturday, July 3, the wife and I went for a little ride.  We left home at 8:15, and returned right at 9:00,  Of course that was am and pm respectively.  In that 12 hours and 45 minutes, we covered many miles.  We did manage to stop for 3 meals and a couple of breaks, which made for a relaxed day.

Since we are doing the Call of the Wild tour this year, we had a few specific towns with animal names as our destinations.  Our first stop was the tiny settlement of Raccoon, just off of US231 in Putman county.  Unfortunately it didn't have anything with a sign, so we did not get a picture there.  At least it was only a 1/4 of a mile out of our way, so little time was wasted.  We then proceded east on IN 236 to Roachdale IN.  Roaches are pretty damn wild in my book.  From Roachdale we headed north-east to Eagletown in Hamilton county.  Then we continued east through Noblesville (getting warm in the traffic through Westville and Noblesville) and found ourselves in Fishersburg.  From there we hopped over to Lapel (there's and Ape in Lapel) for a quick shot in front of the library.

By then we were ready for lunch, so Wendy's in Pendleton was our next stop.  After a light lunch we headed on east to Henry County, since hen is one of the animals on our list.  Now I know hens are not usualy considered wild, but if you think of hen turkeys, then they get a little wild.  Continuing east, we went as far as IN 1 on the east side of Hagerstown.  This was the first time I had been through Hagerstown and did not stop and eat at Welliver's.  Oh the shame!  We turned south on IN 1 and headed to Dearborn County.  Luckily dear counts for deer, so we didn;t have to find something with correct spelling.

At this point we had one more left to get on this trip, Bear Branch Indiana.  Getting there took us into Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun, and within a few feet of the Ohio river.  I could have taken a different route and not seen the river, but It was more scenic.  It was also more congested due to some kind of festival taking place in Aurora, along the damn river.  Oh well, it didn't last long, and we were soon back out in the sticks, pretty much by ourselves.  Afer about 10 miles of really nice county road, we found Bear Branch.  There was a store (closed) and a large rock with the name on it, so we were successfull.

Now it was time to head home, and we were a long ways from there.  We worked our way back north to North Vernon, then Columbus where we headed back west on IN 46 all the way to Terre Haute.  For once it was good to see Terre Haute, since home was only another 30 minutes away.  By the time we rolled back into the driveway, we had covered 455 miles for the day.

Yes it was a long day, and we had covered a good amount of miles considering the roads we were on.  A trip on the Interstate will get you more miles in less time, but you sure don't see the things you see on the two lane roads.  It was good to see parts of south-east Indiana, an area we had never managed to ride in.  There is some nice country down that way.

Screw working on the house, I had to go for a ride.  Had some Medicaid paperwork to take care of this morning for my aunt who is in the nursing home.  Got done and said hey, lets ride a while!  Left Terre Haute and headed east to Bellville, then took 39 north to Lebanon to check out a house.  Then I wandered back west and south to home.  I stopped for gas and food in Brazil, then spent the rest of the time riding down the road.  Left the nursing home around 11:15, and got home a little after 3:00.  It felt good to be out wandering.
