Oh for cripes sake! His father is a Nigerian banker! Obviously he was trying to stop the transfer of a large amount of money (which somehow had been mysteriously abandoned in his father's bank) to the account of the American who was helping his dad out. The good Samaritan must have lived in Detroit.
