Title: TWILIGHT
Post by: awol on September 22, 2006, 10:02:44 PM
"How you doing?"

How am I doing?  Ah yes, the litmus test.  That fuckin' question again.  Take a look, sweetheart.  Take a good long look, and tell me how i'm doing.  You don't really want to know, or else you wouldn't have asked.  You want me to say 'fine' and shuffle off in my bathrobe and blue slippers.  If i say anything else, then i must not be 'right', right?  How the fuck do you think i'm doing?  How would you be 'doing'?  They hide the god-damned sharp things around me!  Everybody looks at me with that 'concern'.  Not like they give a shit.  Like they might not be able to outrun me if they had to.  I wanna scream 'why don't you care!', 'why don't you see!'.  What's the point.  What do I care?

"fine"

maybe there's some coffee somewhere...

just random story ideas that come to me.  there's an older engineer i work with that i had in mind when i wrote this one.  i worked as a nurses aide when i was 18, and i was picturing this guy in a home.

to continue...
? perhaps we can trade canfoods for some shots?

The rain is over now.  It left behind a thick mist that doesn't bode well for The Hunt.  The Headmistress approved our trade, though we are up to six canfoods for each shot now.  I have gone without Midday for longer than that before, so i'm not concerned.  But when I took David for the shot, it was light.  I'm sure of it.  Brian says it's my imagination, and I shouldn't make a fuss, but i'll see what my sister has to say.  Her husband was on the Council, so she may know what's happened to the rations...

49th street....

Jimmy never swung his arms when he walked.  It was an idiosyncrasy that he developed through conscious effort from the time he was in junior high school, and it had the effect of making him seem both out of place and perfectly balanced at the same time.  To those who were unaccustomed to it, it was slightly disconcerting, so it had the effect of keeping people from watching where he was going.  Now he went into the Stop-N-Go.
He paused for a second as he entered, and sniffed the air.  Although it was warmer inside, he shivered for a second and turned his collar - concealing much of his face and a small tattoo of a dagger on his neck.

It is early evening now, and lightning bugs are aloft, like the sparkle of sunshine in the ripples of a lake on a clear day - as though our little town has just been shined, which of course it has.  Everyone has cleared the cobwebs from their winter caves, opened their windows, and yawned a groggy welcome to the summer.  In the distance, the sound of harried mothers giving warning to children playing with fire-crackers and the occasional barking of dogs.  The scent of lilac and apple blossoms fills the air.
