Title: moments of clarity

ok.  this is for "comebacks" that come way too late.  further arguments on topics long dead, but left something smoldering in the back of my mind to be argued another day.

the analogy of the 10 people eating at a restaurant and paying thier portion of the tab acording to us tax policy bothered me quite a bit.

it over simplified an extremely complex problem which is the continued indulgence of the few wealthy elite at the expense of the vast majority of poor.  this shouldn't happen in a democracy.  period.

let me give you an example of what should happen in a democracy from personal experience.  it's not necessary that you believe this has happened to me, the point remains the same.

at my job, we have an 'employee of the month' program in which any employee can nominate any other employee, and then all employees vote for the winner.  the employee recieves a small bonus, and the department he works in recieves a catered lunch.  (people like the lunch)  i have been nominated more months than not, but i will never be employee of the month because  i work in engineering.(the smallest department)

and this is how a democracy should work.

since we are over simplifying, let's take another look at the problem.

lets say you are in a texas hold-em tournament.  the tournament is about to begin when the hosting house realize they are one person short.  one bystander agrees to play under the conditions that he be given as many chips as the other 99 players put together, and he gets to make the rules.

still wanna play?

on illegal immigration.

"they come here because of the demand for cheap labor"

let me make one thing clear.  there is NO demand for cheap labor.  there is a demand for labor.  if none will perform the labor at the rate you are willing to pay, then you must up your rate.  supply and demand.  simple.  how is this not the republican "fair trade platform" stance on the subject?
