In a few hours Thanksgiving will be over. This thread will give everybody a chance to share how their Thanksgiving turned out. Please share your story with the group.
I'll start us on our way........ My Thanksgiving plan, was to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with family members . The meal took place at my house. I cleaned house like the President was coming, and prepared an abundance of food. The meal was ready, and we were getting seated, and < drum roll please> my husband and I started to carve the Butterball, and to our utter shock, there was a fist sized rotten spot in the breast. :spooked: We just stood there staring at it unable to speak. So, I went in to panic mode, and started calling stores and delis. Most stores were closed, and most delis were out of turkey. We ended up getting fried chicken from a deli. So much for traditional Thanksgiving fare. Everything else went good though. The pumpkin pies I got at Perkins were the bomb. OK, guys lets hear your stories.
I got up, my mom came over and cooked me breakfast. I had some turkey bacon. I took a big handful of pills. (prescription) I played a little bit on my new computer, the pills kicked my butt and I laid back down and took a nap. I woke up to church people dropping off some dinner, I put it in the fridge and slept some more after I took more pills. I woke up hungry and had the dinner, then slept some more. Then I woke up and took more pills.
I did manage to call a couple of friends, log onto the zone and surf some on the net. I need to get some sleep now.
A little hectic considering we aren't doing the meal until Sat. because of schedules. I did get to watch the parade though for the first time in a while.
I cooked, posted on the Zone, watched Green Bay win, and then ate.
I grew up with a mid-day Thanksgiving meal, but my friend likes an evening meal. We ate around 6 and I was starving. Needless to say, I over ate and went home because I was feeling like crap! Then after my turkey induced nap, I woke up to no left overs. I need to remember to take a plate home next time.
Brined turkey was very delicious. She only did salt, water, and large chunks of onion. I thought it did a great job with the moisture.
Dex - Did you ever find out anything about your turkey? Did you take it back?
Lex - It sounds like you had a restful holiday anyway. That was nice of your mom to come over to fix you breakfast. Why didn't you have dinner w/her to keep from being alone? If you don't mind me asking.
Kimmi - I totally know what you mean about Thanksgiving dinner. I've always had it mid afternoon. That way, I can veg on the couch and fall asleep to the sounds of football on the tv. LOL Evening is for leftovers. What did she brine the turkey in? I mean what type pan or whatever. I may try it at Christmas.
We had a nice day. The food turned out perfect. Originally it was supposed to be just my daughter and I, but she invited guests. Which I wasn't looking forward to, it turned out to be a good thing 'coz I cooked too much as usual. I like to cook so there are leftovers, but I'm thinking I may change the tradition a bit and volunteer next year.

I don't know what Hubby is going to do about the bird. I left it up to him. He hasn't done anything to my knowledge.

We were both tired and we get cranky when we are tired. And we argue at the drop of a hat and one of us seems to drop the hat just to get the ball rolling. It was a nice and quiet. Blood relatives are far from civil if around each other too long in my family.
She bought a brining bag - I had never heard of them. I'm guessing it is like a large ziplock. She filled that and put it all in a roaster in the fridge.
Thanks Kimmi. I'm sure that I haven't seen them, but maybe because I wasn't looking. I'll look for that.
We had a great time. Had a pre-turkey day soiree at the house on Wed with just a few friends that went great.
Turkey day went very well--both turkeys turned out divine--deep fried and roasted.
My SIL was there to help out--thank gawd! I was exhausted and my foot was swollen due to the steroids. Had to take a few pain pills to get through the day but it worked out.
We built a fire in the fireplace and just enjoyed it all evening! They left on Friday.
I passed out Sat and Sun--managed to get my achy bod to work on Monday and feel terrific today--haven't taken one pain pill!! Whoo Hooo!
