Have you ever had a time, when things are going good, and everything goes to hell in a handbasket, all of a sudden, like out of the blue? My kitten Maddie had surgery 12 days ago, to have her eye removed. Things were looking real good today, but her incision opened tonight, and it started to drain. I think it's infected. She never touched it when the stitches were in. But, now she keeps digging it with her paw. I'll have to take her to the vet tommorrow, and I'm scared they may have to restitch it. It seems like it never ends. She'll be fine, and then all of a sudden she'll be sick, and now this. I often wonder why this shit happens to me all the time? I do my best to help animals, and every time I get attached to them, they either get sick or die. I wish I knew why, I'm sure there is a lesson here, but I don't get it. I've had a lot of struggles in the past year with my pets, and I've lost several too. Sometimes, I wonder whether, or not I should continue to do animal rescues. A lot of my heart goes into these animals, and it is sooo hard to lose them. It doesn't seem fair, when you give something everything you've got, and it doesn't have a good ending. I don't know why it's like that.
Have you got something you can wrap her paws in? I know she would probably chew on it and try to get it off but at least she couldn't dig into her eye. If she's calm enough maybe you can put some gauze over her eye and then wrap that some way to protect it. I know you don't want to tape it 'cause of the fur but there has to be come way.

Those are great ideas me. She is extremely hard to deal with. I've had a hell of a time getting her antibiotics down her. When they took her stitches out, it took me and a vet assistant, to hold her down, and the vet had a hell of a time snipping the stitches. She was the same way when they drew blood from her hind leg for testing. She's real little, but boy is she strong LOL!!!! I just hope she doesn't have to go through surgery again. She's such a good little kitten. I just get sooo tired of the struggle all the time. :'(
Make the classic funnel collar for her. You know what I mean? Looks like someone took cardboard and make a funnel out of it and put it over the cat or dogs head. Its long enough they can scratch around their face and etc.

An Elizabethan collar. I have a cat that some how managed to get his paw caught between his chin, and the collar, when he had one of those on.. LOL!!! Man, you talk about chaos. I was driving down the road when it happened. I didn't think I was going to get pulled over, before he strangeled himself on it. It was all kinds of crazy, because he was flailing around, and bouncing off the back seat like a ping pong ball. LMAO!!! Needless to say, I never put it back on him, and he never bothered his stitches.
Today, I'm taking Maddie to the vet, to have her incision looked at. When I get off work, I'll know more about, what needs to be done. Now, I've got problems with Dudley. He's vomited 6 times this morning. It never ends. I suppose now we'll go through losing him too. I thought since he's reasonably healthy, it might be a while, before the Leukemia took him, but I suppose he'll be gone soon too. Iam soo tired of this shit, I could puke.
Aww, Dex--so sorry. But you know, it never ends. You have chosen (or have been chosen) to be the animal samaritan and you're damned good at it.
Just keep plugging and keep your chin up--it will be just fine!
Also, the idea for the collar thingy isn't a bad idea--maybe the vet has one he'll donate to you. Or you can make one out of plastic if you have a good staple gun!
Hope it works out.
Love ya kiddo,
Tallu :smitten:

Thanks T. Your kind words mean a lot. I'll never give up animal rescue, because it's something I feel compelled to do. I do have some good and bad news, about Maddie, there is nothing wrong with her incision. The vet told me, that she has a chronic respiratory disease, and her sinuses will drain out of the empty eye socket. :spooked: I was disappointed to hear about that, but at least she didn't have to have another surgery. I was very fearful that she would.
An update on Dudley...... He has stopped vomiting, but he just acts real dumpy. I worry a lot about him, and any time I see any kind of symptom of illness, I automatically think, it's the end for him. He's living on borrowed time, and it bothers me alot, knowing what I know will probably become of him. :'(
Another update on Dudley.... He's really sick tonight, he started throwing up again, and he's hanging his head on the water dish, which is a very bad thing. Why me?Why now? It just doesn't look very good at all. :'(
How is he?
