Title: Pelosi Makes Political Misstep...again

The two meetings House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attended before a vote on a resolution labeling the massacre of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey a genocide foreshadowed the biggest political misstep of her speakership.

In the hours before a House panel approved the resolution Oct. 10, Pelosi was told in a tense meeting with Turkey's ambassador that the vote would endanger his country's alliance with the U.S. She had a warmer session with an Armenian cleric and representatives of Armenian-Americans, who have a large presence in her home state of California. In both, she made clear she intended to bring the resolution to a full House vote.

Since then, Pelosi, 67, has been in retreat. Her vow to bring the measure to a vote outraged Turkey, which recalled its ambassador and threatened to cut off the use of its military bases to resupply U.S. troops in Iraq. On Oct. 17, Pelosi said it ``remains to be seen'' whether the vote would occur after more than a dozen lawmakers pulled their names from the measure and some Democrats asked her to drop it.

"Congress has more important work to do than antagonizing a democratic ally in the Muslim world, especially one that's providing vital support for our military every day,'' says our President.

heck, I don't know what i'm trying to say........

let me try again......He took a stand against China, by not bowing down to a ridicules request......

the Turkey issue was a political move that backfired on Pelosi.....they ARE a friend of ours, supporting our troops in Iraq.....why would we need to dig up a 100 year old issue with them at this time...when we need them at a critical time.....

Ok...

I don't agree with what the House was trying with that resolution. But in fact it never made it to a vote to the House floor.

On the other hand, Mr. Bush parades around the Dalai Lama and his medal in front of the entire world in a seemingly ignorant move to anger China.

I just don't get it.

okay, to me, I'm getting a little sick and tired of China............them 'demanding' us NOT to honor the dalai lama?.....would'nt it seem a little cowardice for the US, to NOT see a beloved peace maker, because China said so?...

Henry, if you fail to see the similarities here, I have nothing more to say.

Except that there's a big difference between bravery and stupidity.

are you trying to tell me, that the President should have NOT spoken to the Dalia Lama, simply because China said so?

this is not a democrat / republican issue.....this is a United States issue Bo....the Dalai Lama is NOT a Politcal Leader....he is a Religious/Peace leader.....there was no threat to speaking to him.....other than a power play by China to stop the meeting...

why is it, many on the left, autmaticly go against EVERYTHING this President does.....THAT is becoming a REAL problem as far as I'm concerned...

Easy on the twist there, Henry.

1. The Dalai Lama is more than a religious leader and you know it. If you keep up with world politics at all, you know that he is THE symbol for the political separation between Tibet and China.

2. We didn't just speak to him. We gave the dude a medal. The highest medal we can give to a civilian.

3. Turkey asked us not to pass a resolution declaring a genocide. We didn't. Why is that any different than being a little more diplomatic with China's request?

Are you serious?

We are at war with Iraq (in case you didn't know  ;D )....our presence in Turkey, play a big role in the safety of our troops....what do we have to accomplish by passing a 100 year old resolution at this time

where as:

How does honoring a man, who HAS played an intrigual part in peace and wants peace between China and Tibet....why should we be kissing the ASS of Communist Country over a non-threatening issue...

on a side note, if you believe this, then there was no reason for the shrub to meet the dalai lama other than to piss off china.
