Title: Writings.../Mental.
Post by: Cookie Parker on September 18, 2006, 07:32:07 PM
Time for new love......

We miss you Hawkeye and always will....

But we need to love again....and I think you'd approve....

Here's Chopper....who will be called Charlie.....

http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi

You may need to change the listing to Dogs, Young, Large and Male to find Charlie..those are the categories on the left hand side....

His name is Chopper at the kennel on accounta when he closes his mouth, it sounds like he has false teeth that are not sticking well...LOL!!!
You may have to enter 46013 to find him....

He's two...and has been at the Human Kennels in a cage since age 4 months...he's a big 'un, Hawk...and he's male neutered.  Gentle, too.  And silly, and has a funny way about him...he's smart...but he won't be loved like we loved you...it'll be different...but still....don't you think after being in a kennel most of his life, he'll get a kick out of your backyard?  And the rabbits are back..so he can chase them away...and the ground squirrels and the squirrels are on the telephone wires and you know how you hate that!!!!

Anyway, Hawk, we're not putting you away....we're just adding Charlie to our hearts....wish us luck...and have a talk to him now and again, ok?  Let him know we're not the brightest bulbs of dog owners around...but we're trainable....

He's bigger than I recalled....and they cleaned him up, too.  He paces....like an animal who's been in a kennel most of his life...DOB  8/27/04....  Can You tell I love animals?

Huge nose....and he moves like a bear...just smaller steps than you'd think for a dog his size....kennel thing again...he keeps going round and round this house...has laid down a bit...likes carpet, I think...

Same old bad pictures I take....man....hopefully, it's the camera and not the operator, but I'm not holding my breath on that...

Cookie, that is soooo sweet!  I lost my beloved Golden Retriever a few Christmasses back and grieved for a couple of years before someone abandoned a Chesapeake Bay retriever near my home.
I wanted to write Bo (The Golden) a letter explaining that it was time for me to have another furry friend but I thought someone would lock me up!
We buried Bo under the fig tree he loved to nap under.  Maybe I should write him a note and put it in the tree.
Anyway, your Hawkeye musta been a terrific pup and Charlie sure does look like a keeper!

Thanks for the posts and the pix!

Tallulahdarling.  I am sorry for your loss and happy for your gain.   Believe it or not, I have discussed seeing Hawkeye roaming the hallway at night and feeling him climb in bed with me with Palehorse who kindly assures me I am not losing my mind.

When we were bringing Charlie home, I did talk to Hawkeye in the house and told him what was going on...and asked him to kinda teach him the ropes.  LOL!!!!  So, no, I think the letter in a box would be perfect.

Hawkeye acted as though he had been here a few times in the past...very bright and alert and assured....our Charlie, the Big Lug, is just the opposite.  Puppy ways and goofy and not sure what's new...could have been his kenneling for a year and 8 months, I'm sure.  Either way, he's a honey and I am sure you felt as though your Chespeake was a godsend, too.

Thanks for sharing....we dog lovers are a definte breed apart, aren't we?  LOL!!!

Just wondering how Charlie is doing?

He is so great....went walking this morning with him and he is learning how to do that really well.  He used to go around a circle with me...and I'd have to move my arm...now he pretty much stays alongside the road....

All he's had mostly is cement floors so sniffing has been a new treat for him.  Watched my daugher's lab for her and hubby while they got caught in the snows of Niagra Falls/Buffalo last week.  LOL!!!  Charlie picked up a lot of tips about sniffing the ground and going after sents...he's funny to watch as he starts seeing things in this world...

He's a huggy bear...and leans into you when you pet him...he's so adorable..

Thanks FatCat'sMom for asking...he's here to stay!!!

I am so glad to hear that, you sound like a proud Mama bragging on her child. Charlie is one lucky puppy.

And, you are more then welcome.

Precious gifts of limited time.

Everyone you meet and your family.  Precious gifts of limited time.

There are probably just a handful of people you truly never let go of...although you respect their right to be gone...but for some reason, they impacted your life and you can't seem to muster desire to let them fade in your memory.

Each day, with new faces or old, you are encountering someone right now, a precious gift of limited time.  See, you could die in the next half hour...or they could...and what was your interaction?  How did you use this gift?

Oh, it's not say you will love everyone you meet...nor those you know...some you tolerate and some you can't stand...some actions will never fit under the bridge and some people will never accept you as you are...but even with those, they are precious gifts because they make you want to be better..either ignoring them, leaving them, rising above the hurt feelings you created from their actions/words...they can make you incharge of you and not them incharge of you.  You're hurt for  a reason by them...once you find the reason and accept it, you move on...your precious gift has limited its time with people who do not like you...you have found the answers as to why you have allowed yourself to be hurt by them within yourself...now you can move on......move on......move.....

Well, she WAS at the intersection of a busy country highway and the road leading into my little community.  When I first saw her she was lying down on the side of the road.  She was so beautiful and clean that I knew she belonged to a neighbor and I went about my day.  I returned 6 hours later and she was in the same spot.  I got out of the car, opened my back door, called for her, she jumped right in and I took her home.  We put an ad in the paper and after a week of no takers she became our baby   ;D
That was over a year ago.
What is she doing now?  Rucuperating from one heck of a swamp adventure I just took her and the other two dogs (I"ll post their pics at another time--they were rescued as well) on.  These dogs need lots and lots of exercise--one thing we have in common  HA!!!

Ah, sounds like fate or karma...I'm afraid to go back to the Humane (not Human as I wrote before..LOL!) Society...I know I'd find others to love, too.  LOL!!!

So, we do get our exercises...she looks huge!!!

Again, she is so lucky to have you (not her as I said before...LOL!!)

I'd love to see the pics when you get them...as I'm sure everyone would...thanks!!!

She is a pretty gal, Tallu. Very pretty. When I was growing up in the country, we always had strays as pets. Why do people do that? When I think back, we had 1/2 dozen dogs and I can't remember how many cats at one time. Oh and that doesn't include the huntin' dogs that were NOT pets. Although I used to sneak them treats. Every now and then I'd get caught and punished. LOL It was worth it.

Swamp? I have a lab and she loves the water, but I have a the picture of the swamp being dangerous. No? is that a stereotype?

I don't understand why people throw away animals.  I also don't understand why some view some pets more as "employees" re: the hunting dogs   Makes no sense...
Anyway, I have a very Buddhist approach to the swamp:
Yes, it can be dangerous especially in the summer with all of the gators and pit vipers roaming around, so I usually don't venture down there in the warmer months.
But when we get the first chill--LOOK OUT!  I'm all over it!  The dogs can swim safely and I get to feed the ducks!
So the summer, the creatures get their forest and swamp and we humans get it while our cold-blooded friends sleep off the winter!
You know alligators are still considered endangered here in MS.  It's illegal to kill them unless they end up on your front porch.

Gorgeous pup, Tallulah! I'm not typically a "dog person" but I love other peoples' dogs. If I were to have one myself, she would probably be what I'd pick. What gorgeous eyes she has!

Thanks, Daisy, I'll tell her.  She's about ready to strut around in her tiara today!  She's big and can eat her weight in dog chow but she earns her keep-- :smitten:

The hunting dogs were "employees" but revered based on their job.  We weren't allowed to treat them like pets, but they got the best of everything. The "pets" didn't have the same status. Although they enjoyed my hugs and mud pies so I'm sure they were just as happy. LOL They also were able to roam freely w/me over the farm and through the woods behind my house. I used to babble to them like friends. Well they were friends and I still talk to my dog.

I enjoy nature too and you're right, you just need to be familiar with it and compromise. Afterall, you're on their turf, so be respectful. Since I've moved to California, I've ventured out quite a bit, but I haven't been hiking deep into the trails because of the threat of mountain lions and killer bees, but you've inspired me. I think I'll study up and try to work with nature and discover more in my new home.

Good!  We all shouldn't let nature's darkside keep us from enjoying the great outdoors.  What part of Cali do you live in?  Hiking around here is usually impeded by fire ants and snakes.  I sure would love to do some hiking someplace really pretty--like Australia!

You are not kidding, dahling!!  I had to be rushed to the ER when I accidentally stepped into a bed that was hidden in a brush that I fell in.  I looked like Quasimodo on acid when they admitted me--not pretty  :'(

I have to agree with Sunny......What a beautiful family, they are all adorable. I am a  nut for dogs also, but where I live I can only have cats. Which I'm not complaining, I have two wonderful persona's. Molly, she is anti social and Pettie thinks he is a dog. He plays fetch all the time, and is like an adolesent boy, into everything!

My true love is horses, but at this time I can not afford the farm to raise them. But some day, because that is my true calling.

You look into  any of thier eyes and that is a true loving soul.

Got to agree with you on that....I had an Agreement going with a person that if either won the lottery money would be set aside to have a place in kentucky to keep all the dogs we wanted...I'd be willing to throw in horses, too, if you'd like to share that wager....we could  take turns going down there and hire someone to care for them...course, I'm talking millions in the lottery..LOL!!!
