Today is the 4 th of July, and it started out with a bang. This morning one of my cats that I thought was a male, gave birth to a kitten. Imagine my surprise when I walked out of my house, to see this "male" cat dragging a still atached to the ambilcal cord kitten, around the yard. I've never been more surprised in my life. The father/mother has very long hair, and the private parts are somewhat hidden. I'm not the type to go around stareing at animal genitals, so with a brief look when it was very tiny, I appearently mistook the cats sex. By the time I went to stop the he/she it was gone, and I could hear the kitten crying. To my horror I found the kitten dangling by it's ambilical cord from the deck, with about a foot long drop to the ground. I managed to get the poor little thing, and the Mama and set them up on the porch. She's not very receptive of the little thing, and if she doesen't take care of it ,I'll have to start it on a bottle. I really hope it doesn't come to that, because I've bottle fed I don't know how many kittens, but it's very time consuming, and they wake up every 2 hours round the clock, to be fed. Hopefully she'll accept it, and we can avoid the bottle feeding. That's how my 4th of July started. With a bang.
only one kitten?

You know what? I found 2 more out in the yard tonight. I don't know if they'll make it or not. They spent the day out in 90* weather. The Mommy is not to happy to be a Mommy. So,I'm not sure how it's going to go. I might have to start them on a bottle.

I don't envy you if you do have to start them on a bottle. I had to do that once for some tiny kittens when their mom disappeared for about 3 days. We have no idea where she was and she was a good mom so we figure someone had her in their house and wouldn't let her out. Bad thing is I'm allergic to cats so my chest broke out and I coughed my head off and all sorts of good stuff. It wasn't even our cat to top it all off. It was a stray cat who had her kittens in our back yard. We finally did get the humane society to take them all after they were weened. Some people the woman next door works with took the mother cat.

I'm not looking forward to bottle feeding at all. I've done it many, many times. Getting up every 2 hours to feed them drains me real quick. I won't turn away from them, they can't help it, if their Mommy rejects them. I've delivered kittens so many times I've lost count. I've had to pull them, clean the sack off, and clamp off the ambilical cord. Alot of times the Mommy cats, have no clue what to do. I hope she'll accept them, because when they're that little, they need round the clock care, and I work so I'm not home all the time. Hopefully it will work out.
I hope it works out and she accepts them too,

This is an update on the kittens. The Mommy and kittens are in the house, in the air conditioning. The little one that was dangling ,by it's ambilcal cord, died last night. The Mommy apears to be accepting the other ones, so that's a real blessing. One of the kittens,is all orange and manx ( no tail) it is adorable. The other one is all back, it's really cute too. Hopefully, things will go good for them now.
Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the lil' one dying. That's unfortunate. I mean finding the other two and the fact the three of them are doing so well, is a wonderful thing, but I was pullin' for the little fella.
So, are you going to keep them? Thought about names? If so, you've got to come up w/something really clever considering how they entered the scene.
Kimmi's good at coming up w/names.

I think the Mommy might have squashed the poor little thing. I was thinking about nameing them Lost and Found LOL!!!
LMAO! I Love it!

I probably won't call them that, but, it is fitting.
This is an update on the kittens. Warning this is graphic if you are grossed out easily do not read any further. That said..... My little orange Manx kitten has some serious problems. When I came home today, he was really crying loud. I went to see what was wrong, and his ear was a bloody mess. Initially I thought the mommy was trying to kill it. So, I looked at his ear, and it was entirely full of maggots. Apparently, when he laid out in the yard when he was born, his ear became infested with flies. I was horrified,in all the years I've had pets,I've never seen anything like it. I spent 3 hours trying to clean them out. I used peroxide, syringes full of warm water, and tweezers. I got 15 full sized ones out, and right now we're taking a break. I still have more to get out. It is totally sickening, but I have to do it. I would never walk away from an animal in need of help. Tommorrow morning I'm taking him to the vet. If he survives the night. What a horrible thing to have happen, I'm still shocked. I don't understand how there are so many. Please say a prayer for us if you have time. We need all the help we can get.
oh how awful...
youre a much stronger person than I am...no way I could do that.

When it comes to animals,I've done alot of things, I thought I'd never be able to do. I love animals soo much, I can't just walk away. When I see an animal sick or in pain it just kills me. I hope this kitten makes it, but I'm prepared for whatever happens. I've seen alot of strange things, but this tops the list.
I hate to hear that. Hope he makes it.

Well, he survived night. We're going to the vets in about an hour. He has more hatched out. I might have to have the poor little thing euthanized. I've never seen anything like it. :spooked:
Sure hope the vet can do something for him rather than having to have him put to sleep. Poor little guy what a heck of a way to be welcomed into the world. :'(

The trip to the vet was a success  The vet sprayed some medicine in his ear, and they all came to the surface. We picked out 10 more and several more crawled out. He does have a small hole under his ear, but it's not life threatening at this point. He may not be able to hear out of it, but he's alive. I'm guardedly optimistic, but only time will tell. I have ointment to put in it once a day. He seems like a fighter, so maybe he'll pull through this. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, because he is so little, and this has been a serious obstacle. :'(
You can name him Tyson or Foreman or George, Ali or Frazier - fighters

Oh sht, I think I might have hit the report to moderater thing on your last post crap!!! I'm typing with one hand and holding the kitten in the other. I hope they ignore that or realize it was a mistake, Jesum Crow!!! Maybe I didn't I hope I didn't. I don't know how it works, when you hit that moderator thing. Those are all great names. We should set up a vote to pick his name. I never realized how hard it is to type with one hand. :spooked:

Uh oh! Looks like my troublemaking days might be over.
Don't worry about it, I don't use it either, but I'm sure it's fine.

I hope it's ok. I can't believe I hit it,yes I can
Sadly, this afternoon the little orange manx kitten died. I really didn't think he'd make it. It was a pretty severe obstacle. At least, I know I did the best, I could for him. I find comfort in that. He was a brave little fighter but unfortunately, his little body couldn't take it. I have one left, and he's been checked by the vet,and appears to be free of infestation. It would be nice, if at least one of her kittens would live. She's a first time and hopefully last time Mama. As soon as the other one is weened, Mama's going to be spayed.
Sorry to hear the kitten didn't make it. :'(

Thanks  I really had serious doubts, but I did my best to help the poor little thing. I've never seen anything like that. I've still got the heebie geebies from it. I keep feeling like they're crawling on me or something. Well, I hope the other one makes it. We'll just have to wait and see.
It has to Dex, it's survived this long and I'm hoping the odds are on yours and the lil' guys side.

The Mommy is taking real good care of it. I think it will be alright. They're both inside in the c/a, and I keeping them inside for a while. It's suposed to be in the 90's today. Thank God for c/a.
