I decided to post here on MoJo's site since that is usually where I spent a lot of my time before I "disappeared".
Found out I had breast cancer and then everything went into overdrive--had lots and lots of quick decisions to make and it just made my world spin.
Good news is that my lymph nodes are clean! HOORAY!
Bad news is that they had to take the whole breast. BOO!
But I'm ok--I have lots and lots of support. Friends and family have come to the house to take turns caring for my ornery self and I get my staples out next Wed.
I go to the oncologist tomorrow to see if he recommends any radiation or chemo just as a "safety precaution" and then it's off to the plastic surgeon to get me a new bewb. I've requested one from the Pamela Anderson collection--I figure what the hell--you only live once, right? LOL
Since I've been pretty much "homebound" I've kinda missed this place and feel that I should get back into the swing of things so expect to see me hanging around a bit.
I will keep you guys updated. Keep me in your prayers and know that I'm one heck of a tough broad so no worries!
Catch up with you soon,
Tallu
PS Ladies, please do your self-exams! That's how I found my tumor.
Oh my goodness! (I posted in the other thread too)
It's so good to see you. It certainly does sound like you've been through a lot since we last saw you. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, but I'm happy to know that it looks like you're okay AND your wonderful sense of humor is still intact.
Self exams, all the time. I don't just do them monthly and have pretty much made them a part of most of my showers (can't remember who recommended the shower, but it's a reminder, while I wash). Some advice for others, I remember being concerned about not knowing what to check for. The best time to check is after a medical exam. That way, you know you're all clear and what that feels like. Any changes and you know to call your doctor.
Mammograms are important too. I just has my first one a few months ago. It's SO not what everyone makes it out to be. I was expecting the worst. It was no big deal.
Tallu, I'm always so happy to see you. I'm even happier to know that you're recovering and are going to be okay.
Tallu I'm sorry to hear about your health issues but glad you are okay now. I'm happy to see you posting here. It has been too long!
Take care!
It is WONDERFUL to 'see' you, Tallulah...you've certainly been thought about and MISSED.
Great to see your spirits so high admist the challenge life has put on your plate -- should give us all inspiration to be a little more appreciative of what we have to be thankful for.
Sounds like you are surrounded by loving folks in your life, too...that's a bonus ++++!
Please continue to check in when you get a chance -- you naturally light up this place.
Good to see you Tallulah!! Good advice, and I hope you are feeling brand new soon!! I have been big on self exams after losing my grandmother to breast cancer in 1999. She had noticed a lump but ignored it because of my grandfather's ailing health. Her "selflessness" ended up costing her her life. Since then, I've had TWO mammograms (one at 24 and the other at 28) due to lumps. First one seemed to disappear on its own, perhaps it was just a clogged duct? They weren't sure, but there was nothing on the ultrasound or mammogram, despite feeling it a week earlier. The second time, it was definitely a clogged duct, a result of nursing my youngest. But...I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Glad to see you around. We miss your spunk!
Tallulah, good to see ya around, hang in there, and we will be prayin for ya... ;)
Thanks all!
Got the news from the oncologist yesterday and he wants to give me the works! :(
Due to the size of the tumor (It was about 4.2 centimeters) he wants me to have a full round of chemo and radiation. Will take about 4-6 months for both. I will also be working with a nutritionist and a personal trainer--that's kewl, huh?
I am so fortunate that my hubby had the foresite to purchase a cancer policy so insurance will pay for all this mess!
Today I have a catscan to see if my organs are ok, then I get a heart exam on Thursday and on Monday I will have one of those mediport things inserted in my chest to receive the chemo drugs.
Then, I get to go to Tuscaloosa or Jackson for a MRI of my other breast cuz we don't have a facility here in the boonies. But it's cool cuz both places have a Michael's and a Bed Bath and Beyond! Whoo Hoo!
Oh well, I've never been one to back down from a challenge so.....here goes a new adventure!
I will keep ya'all posted.
Ta, ta,
Tallu
PS Do your self exams--even you guys can get breast cancer, you know!!
Tallu - Your spirit will be so helpful to those around you! You are contageous!! Good luck with all of these appointments. A nutritionist and a personal trainer huh? That is very nice Oprah Winfrey! Have fun at Michaels and don't forget about the coupon in the Sunday papers when you go there!
YAY for your husband to have that policy! One less thing you have to worry about!
Hi guys and gals!
Thanks, Kimmi--you better take back that Oprah shit--can I say shit on here? It's been awhile -- I may have forgotten the rules--oh well........SHIT!
Yes, Daisy--hubby is the thinker--thank GOD--I sure as hell don't live for the future--it's spontaneous for me, dahlings--I'll never change
Henry and Sunny and, of course, my dahling MsMojo, thanks for the warm welcome and good thoughts.
I'll keep ya'll posted.
Tallu
PS Did I tell you my oncologist looks like Alex Trebeck? MEOW :smitten:
Good to see you Tallulah. I hope all is going well with you. Keep us posted as to how you are doing.

You were totally missed and every one of your posts is SO much fun!
It's funny that you describe yourself as spontaneous and spur of the moment, because for once, my mental picture of someone was accurate.

Okay I take it back, for now anyway until you come on here and tell us what lovely meals you are having and how firm and fit you are! ;)
I'm glad you are here. I've missed your spunk!
Well, ya'all have no fear....I'll be hanging out. Hubby will probably hide my car keys when I begin my treatment so I'll be in "home confinement"....hell, now I know why Paris Hilton freaked out and ran--LOL
I just wish it weren't so damned hot........we have a heat index of 98 degrees today
Oh! that's hot! I think it's sweet that he's trying to protect you from your own stubborn nature. I'm exactly the same way. I take care of everybody else, but for me I say "I'm fine" and hit the road. Normally I am, but every now and then I've really paid for not slowing down.
I'm laughing and thinking what a neat man he must be and how he really has his hands full.
Oh, does he ever have his hands full
Well, he can handle it!
I start chemo on Monday ... they wanted me to start Thursday but I need some time to heal--got my Mediport installed last Monday and I'm still super sore--don't wanna overdo it. Besides--I have a July 4th soiree to attend and certainly can't show up hung over for my first chemo appt. now, can I?
Hope you all have a FAB 4th!

Tallu

My hero!
Oh, good! The Admins have moved this over to my little site! How organized they are--I'm jealous.
