Title: The Naked Mile
Post by: C91 on June 08, 2007, 02:55:36 PM
Google the term "Harlaxton Naked Mile" and you'll get a list of stories and recollections of American college students running the one-mile Harlaxton manor drive in nothing but their sneakers.  This usually occurred late at night after the Harlaxton Bistro and Gregory Arms Pub had closed.  (If they started from the Bistro, they also had to make their way back, so it was actually a two mile journey in the buff.)

My one big regret of my semester at Harlaxton was that I didn't run the naked mile.  It was a rite of passage that I never had the courage to try.  (That and I hung out with a bunch of sticks in the mud while I was there, I guess.)

Anyway, I may have a chance to redeem myself.  Later this month, I will once again find myself on the grounds of Harlaxton Manor as part of an alumni trip.  It will be a small group of alumni from semesters going back up to 30 years.

I really want to run the naked mile, but wonder if it will be looked upon as juvenile.  Why didn't I get it over with 14 years ago when I was there the first time so I wouldn't have this nagging regret?

I could just wait until my last night at the manor and do it, I guess.  But it would be fun to recruit some fellow alumni to take the run for the first (or second) time as well.  Besides, someone has to take photos or witness the event.  I can't just go out and say I did it without some kind of evidence.

I guess if this is the least of my conundrums for my trip, I'm in good shape.
