Title: Amazing Weekend
Post by: BEG on May 14, 2007, 08:56:08 AM
On Saturday I got credentials to walk around the pits and gasoline alley of Indpls Motor Speedway with Mr. Fishers. It was amazing! I got to see the first 2 cars go through tech inspection before they qualified. I was close to alot of drivers and their crew. Danica Patrick almost ran me over in her golf cart in gasoline allye - LOL. I walked up and shook Johnny Rutherford hand!  The only thing that would have made it better, would have been if I had seen or met Rick Mears, my all time favorite driver.  :smitten:

I was asked to go to Kentucky Speedway (which is where Mr. Fishers is a staff photographer and not a free lance one) and help out at the Busch and Truck races this summer. Sounds like fun and something I never would have dreamed about doing in my life - so I'm going for it!

I am glad you finally found happiness.  You deserve it.  You are a great gal....those other guys are just missing out.

I have a nice (hopefully) weekend planned. I'm going to the Kentucky Speedway with Mr. Fishers, where he is a staff photographer, and be up close to see the Busch practice & race!
I will have all access creditentials, so I will be able to go anywhere - any garage, any pit, etc.  The only rule is that I cannot ask for autographs, but I can stand in any drivers garage and just hang out - how cool is that?   But I won't be doing that too much because I think my main 'job' is to drive the photographers (3 - I think) to whatever location they want to get 'the shot'. Watch out - crazy lady driving a golf cart - LOLOLOL   :D

Well if you can't get autographs, then I think you should be able to accidentally be in a few shots with the drivers you like!

Who does Mr Fishers primarily freelance for? The reason I ask is that my brother also freelances for racing, but mostly in the Nascar circuit. He has friends in Indy who also freelance, and I'm wondering if they know each other.

I'm not sure of where he sends his photos to, but I know his photos are in alot of different publications - mostly NascarScene & some big hard back books too.

Wow! Wow! Wow!!!! My weekend was wonderful - exhausting, but WONDERFUL! I have never been so close to so many cool things.
At the Kentucky Speedway, Mr. Fishers is a staff photographer.  So, I had full credentials and a media vest so I could go anywhere I wanted. They gave me a camera on Friday to take shots in the garage. You talk about being a duck out of water - lololol.  Trying not to get killed as the drivers would go in and out to run a couple of laps then come back was the greatest obstacle.  I took some pictures of drivers, and all the crews. Then we were inside between turn 3 and 4. Seeing Mr. Fishers in action was amazing - dang he's good! The man was born to be an action photographer. We called it a day about 12:30 a.m. I then went to Hooters with the 'guys' (other photographers) - that was fun and I was soooo tired I couldn't care less what all they were saying.
Saturday we started with shots of the crowd from all over the place - camp grounds, parking lots, coming through the gates, etc. Later we were in the pits getting driver's head shots as they were about to qualify. Some are really nice and have great personalities and others are very snooty and some are just aloof. After qualifications Mr. Fishers was the ONLY photographer assign to the Peter Frampton concert!!!  If you know where the security guys stand at concerts - behind the gate bars to keep the audience back - that's where we were!! My hands were on the stage. Peter actually winked at me!!!  I could have touched his leg - If I wanted, but I had self-control. We had a blast!!! After the concert we ran (literally) down to the pre-race ceremony in the infield. I then went back to the media center and picked up one of carts. Picked up Mr. Fishers. His race assignment was outside turn 1. To be that close to the track with 43 Busch cars flying past me was awesome - the dirt, wind, sound (even with earplugs - was loud) - I cannot explain it. Then we went down between turn 1 and 2 and he took some more race pics. Then went back to the front stretch and got the checkered flag and burnout pic. Then it was a race back to the media center to down load pics and start the editing process of what gets published and what doesn't. I think we made it back to the hotel at 2:45 a.m. I was thoroughly exhausted.
I will never forget this weekend. :smitten:  I sent him a plant with flowers in it this morning thanking him for the wonderful weekend and quoting our song - Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way".

No, he wasn't one of the guys that went. That would have been fun!! Mr. Fishers said that they (him and your bro) have drank their fair share of beer though.  :food4:

Hahaha I bet. We used to always have my neice's birthday poolside in their backyard, before the Brown County house was bought, and we'd get pretty hammered. LOL
