Title: Dexter on Showtime
Post by: Dexter Morgan on May 11, 2007, 12:03:21 AM
Dexter is a Showtime original series. The story line follows Dexter Morgan, a crime scene blood splatter expert. He works for the police, but he has a very dark side. He's a serial killer. He takes care of criminals, who slip through the cracks, of the judicial system. He's a victims advocate with a twist. Dexter is on on Sunday nights. Right now they're rerunning the first season and in October they will start season 2 . If you like crime shows this is a good one. His character is so likeable, you start to agree with his method of madness. Dexter isnt going to let the bad guys win. Check it out.!!!

Now you have me curious. I opted for HBO and Starz over Showtime because I like the new movies on Starz and the Sopranos on HBO, but the Sopranos is ending so maybe I'll swap.

Im telling you...my friends who turned me onto it told me the premise behind the show, and I thought it sounded a little corny. But it is awesome...

Isn't he the actor that played the gay undertaker in Six Feet Under?

Yes, thats the one. (That was another brilliant show)
Theres some similarity in the characters...that I cant quite explain...but oddly enough the serial killer is less "creepy"

Yes he is.  He's babealicious. I liked him in Six Feet Under, but I think his Dexter character is hotter.  :devil29: He was very convincing playing a gay man. He's even better as a serial killer. He really is a gifted actor.

They are all by Jeff Lindsay. The 1st one is 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter'. The second one is 'Dearly Devoted Dexter'. The last one is 'Dexter in the Dark'. I'd love to be in the dark with Dexter (Michael C.Hall) LOL!!! On the  ShowTime Dexter website you can read excerpts and chapters from the books. I want them all.

nevah mind...I found em on Amazon...from the dates of publication, Im assuming the show is based on the books...though the show does follow the publication closely.
Now I have the perfect gift for the upcoming birthday of a fellow Dexter fan...
(and the perfect "Happy Wednesday" gift for myself, of course)

I can't wait to read them. That show really is an original. They've never done anything quite like it. I absolutely LOVED Six Feet Under. I've got season 1 and the first soundtrack cd. I think Dexter is a little better of the 2. Michael C Hall plays a great serial killer. He's dreamy.   :smitten:

The DVD releases the 21st of this month. I was pleasantly surprised at the price--$27.99 I think. Usually those HBO and SHOWTIME shows are pricey to buy.

I heard season two would start late this month....but dont quote me on that.

That's a real good price.  I've got the first season of Six Feet Under on dvd,but my husband bought it for me,and I'm not sure how much he paid for it. Wow, I didn't know the new season was starting that soon. I'm glad you had an idea about it, or I would have missed it.  :spooked: I haven't watched the reruns of the first season. I do question the decision to put off the 2nd season for soo long. I hope that doesn't cause a drop in viewers. They only taped one season, to see how well it would do, that's what the delay is. I just hope it does good in ratings. I love that show.  :smitten:

There's an episode scheduled for Sept. 19th called "It's Alive". I think it may be a new one. There are 2 episodes after it that I think are from season one. I wonder if they're going to play one new one,and then do that join us in 2 weeks for a new episode of Dexter thing. I hate it when they do that crap.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see LOL!!!!!

I finished the SECOND BOOK last night, and Im certain now that the sept 19th episode is a new one.

I was torn...the first book wrapped up the first season...so I assumed that the second book would probably give away much of the second season.
I was tempted to put the book aside until the season two was over...but I was insomniac last night...

If I had those books in my house, there's no way in hell ,that I wouldn't read them LOL. I'd probably start the first one, and read straight through, untill the last page of the last book. It is such an interesting story line.

This sounds strange but, I was hoping for more murder.  :spooked: But, it's kind of neat, that they're trying to make him more human. I think if they go to far in that direction though, they might lose some of their fan base. It is unique because he's a "good serial killer", but if they turn him into a normal person, I don't think it will fly.  So, here's hoping for some blood and guts, in future episodes LOL!!! I hope they don't mess up a good thing. Putting the second season on hiatus for soo long was a gamble to begin with. I haven't had a chance to see any of the reviews yet. BTW.... I read somewhere, that the second season would be different than the book, because the book came out before the taping for the second season, and they decided to do some minor adjustments,to the story line. So, it's hard to tell how much of a difference, the show will be from the books. I would like to see Doakes be one of his victims LOL!!!  :icon_twisted:

That would be cool. As long as she doesn't mess up, and get them caught LOL!!!! I think it's going to be another great season. I had my doubts, but they are now gone.

It's SUPER HOT right now. It has taken a C-R-A-Z-Y turn!!!!  :spooked:

I just got all 3 books for Christmas, and season 1 on Dvd. I don't know if I'll read book 3, or wait until the 3rd season is over. I'm torn about it. I get sooo much enjoyment out of watching it every week, I don't know if I want to spoil it LOL!!!

Dexter...Id go ahead and read book three. Book two bore absolutely no resemblance to season two of the show.

Wow!!!! No, I didn't know that!!!! That's a surprise considering the graphic violence, and graphic sex!!!! Have you ever seen any of the episodes? I would imagine it will be severely edited for television?  :spooked: WOW!!!

For Christmas last year I got season one on dvd. I haven't even opened it.  :spooked: I also got all 3 of the Dexter books, and haven't read a single one yet. I'm horrible, I'm on the internet sooo much that between it, my job, and taking care of everything at home, and taking care of my critters, I don't even have time to read books anymore.

I did watch it last night and apparently they'll have to edit it to add the commercials that you don't get on Showtime, so I'm guessing that'll be a lot of the violence and sex. LOL It was still a fairly decent crime drama though. I haven't fallen in love with it yet, but I'll watch again next week.

I fell in love with it on the first episode, because I LOVE Michael C. Did anybody hear about the big stink at CBS over "Dexter"? They're having a fit about the graphic violence. I read about it in "Globe". I didn't figure that would work. They said even after they edited it, it was still too violent. IMO that show wasn't meant for  mainstream television anyway.  I guess there's a big uproar over it. As long as it's on Showtime I'm good.  :smitten: I need to find out when it comes back on.

You always have some jerk making a big deal over nothing. Honestly, I watched it and it was implied by not explicit. If you think about it, they have to fit an hour show into about 40 minutes because Showtime doesn't have commercials. There goes your graphic violence. Plus, it's on late at night. It irks the living crap out of me how people try to dictate what other people can be exposed to. If there are children watching it then shame on the parents. They shouldn't be concerned w/the contents of the program as much as why their kids are up that late on a school night.

Moon--you have to get the DVDs. So much was cut for network...the books are not nearly as good as the TV show...but are probably worth a read sometime when you want something sort of mindless. They can be finished in one night.

Man, that sucks.

Here's a brief update......

Dexter and Rita had sex 3 times.  :spooked: A creepy little drug dealer got away with killing 2 teenage girls. Dexter went to kill the guy, and when he got there another guy was already there, trying to kill the dude. Dexter ended up in a tussle, and stabbed the wrong guy to death.  :spooked: Enter new character.... Jimmy Smits? His character is the brother of the guy Dexter stabbed. Not sure how his role is going to play out? The Mexican cop Angel got promoted to sergeant. Maria is trying to make him as cold as she, is with the workers. Dexter is no longer living by Harry's code. I think this season, he will kill more people, just for the pleasure of it.  :icon_twisted:

That's some of it.  It looks like it's gonna be a great season.

Boy.... he sure got him good... didn't he? For a brief minute I thought he might not do it. I kind of wondered how long it would be before he ended up having to kill him. Remember Lila from Season2? I thought she was goin' to get away, and I was really surprised he had followed her. Her death scene was pretty intense. Scary to think there are actual people out there that do that crazy crap! :spooked:
