anyone gonna make the switch?
anyone made the switch?
any thoughts?
My yongest son, just bought a new PC with Vista. He mostly surfs the net, so I haven't heard anything one way or the other about it. I was with him when he bought it and it did have a couple of interesting features, but was not all that different from Windows from what my uneducated mind could tell.
As long as we can check out porn and car stuff, it must be OK???? ;)
I'm in the process of buying a Mac. Hopefully, I'll have it by early next week. I've already converted every server I'm responsible for (some of which run powerful Oracle databases) over to Red Hat Linux.
I hate Bill Gates and I hate Windows whatever the flavor.

The bugs and security issues are a big pain for me being in IT. Plus, the personal belief that Microsoft is absolutely guilty of every bit of antitrust that the Justice Department accused them of makes me want rid of them.
I'll keep you posted on the Mac. I'm looking forward to it.
kkewl. i haven't owned an apple product since the "apple II gs".
seems like a hundred years ago.
that was the model that got them sued by yoko ono.
now they got the whole issue with iphone.
they'll never learn.
None of these big companies ever do. I went to a Mac store last weekend and they cleared up all of the remaining questions I had prior to making my final decision. Unfortunately, there are still some things that I have to use under Windows such as my VPN client, syncing my Blackberry with outlook, etc. But you can run all of that on a MAC now. So I should be good to go.
Like I said, I'll let you know. Hopefully, I'll have it on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
The Mac was purchased this afternoon. This is my second post using it. It is a MacBook Pro with a 160GB hard drive, of which 30GB will be partitioned for Parallels (the application that runs Windows in a Window), and 2GB of memory.
So far, it's awesome!
it would be funny to see a turn on the new mac commercials..."upgrade day"...
"hi, i'm a pc getting an upgrade"
"and i'm a mac"
(mac leaves and a new guy shows up)
pc - "who are you?"
new guy - "i'm the upgrade"
LOL!! ;D
I don't know if you're interested in this or not awol, but here is a picture of Windows running in a window on my Mac. There is also an option to install Vista in this same manner.

neeto!
i did something similar years ago.
i didn't wanna dedicate my whole system to "windows '95", so i installed another os with a boot manager. ended up with 3 operating systems that i could switch through on that system.

Makes me feel better now, knowing I have never purchased a copy of Windows. Microsoft just gives them to me. LOL And yep, I'm using Vista (the 64 bit version), but I also have a dual boot system, where I go back to XP on occasion. I have a copy of Red Hat Linux, and a spare Hard Drive, if I installed it, would it show up as another option in my boot manager? I've never tried it and I've not done the research yet.

I bought a new Dell with Vista (20" screen!).
Everything is different on it to me, but I'm adapting well.
