Title: I Ain't Afraid of No Goat!
Post by: Palehorse on October 22, 2016, 08:26:49 PM
The Chicago Cubs are one win away from their first World Series appearance since 1945.

Up 2 to nothing in the bottom of the first off a pair of right field hits from right handers, and a fly ball to center field by Rizzo that was dropped, with men on 2nd and 3rd and one out!

GO CUBS GO!

Does the goat affect appearances or just a championship win?

I haven't read up on that in awhile.

Steve Bartman is at the game.  ;D

The Curse of the Billy Goat is a sports-related curse that was supposedly placed on the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis was asked to leave game 4 of the World Series against the Detroit Tigers at the Cubs' home ballpark of Wrigley Field because the odor of his pet goat (named Murphy) was bothering other fans. He was outraged and allegedly declared "Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more," which has been interpreted to mean that there would never be another World Series game won at Wrigley Field. The Cubs have not won a World Series championship since 1908 or played in the World Series since 1945.

I think Joe Buck is trying to have a bromance with Kershaw. He keeps yapping on and on about him; meanwhile Kershaw serves up a floater that was driven into the left field bleachers for run number 4 in the bottom of the fourth!

Joe Buck needs to be horsewhipped for his clearly idiotic color commentary.

No matter who wins, one of two of baseballs longest World Series droughts is going to end soon. The Cubs are longest, with the Indians being second longest.

1908 was the last year the Cubs won a series. 1945 was the last year they appeared in the series; the very same year the goat curse was cast.

Yup!  I typically don't watch much baseball, but I may try and watch some of this series just for that very reason.

Yep. Me too. Only it's just about time to spring up out of the bed and hope the fat man brought us a World Series Championship!  8)

Just had a conversation with a Dear Friend within which he stated that although he is a life-long Cubs Fan the fact I am from Chicago was some next level up or something. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Fact is I have seen Cubs gear sported by individuals within each and every state of this Nation in my travels. And every single one of them are fans. I've seen it being worn by folks in Europe, and other places outside of this country. They're fans too.  I'd swear I was in south-west suburban Chicagoland just over the number of people wearing Cubs gear and talking about the game tonight where I am. In another state.

Truth is, you do not have to be from Chicago to be a fan of the Chicago Cubs. I look upon fans from anywhere within this planet, the very same way I do those with whom I've shared seats at Wrigley, or barstools with while viewing them on WGN. One Team - One Dream. A dream that has bonded Cubs Fans Globally for over a century; a dream that has a very real possibility of becoming a reality this night.

May each of us be truly thankful for that which we are about to receive; whether it be the realization of a longstanding dream, or the continuation of it. Sharing it with Cubs Fans world-wide is its own reward; win or lose, we will wake up tomorrow morning Cubs Fans.

The one. The only!

Watching the parade the City of Chicago is holding for their World Series Champion Chicago Cubs.

The Chicago River has been dyed Cubs Blue.

Millions of Fans are choking the parade route and cheering on their team. Peacefully. Joyfully. Brothers and sisters celebrating an event 108 years in the making.

No burning. No looting. No rioting. Just love.

THAT is how Chicago rolls. Pay attention people.

Yesterdays Chicago World Series Parade & Rally was so well attended that it ranks as the 7th largest gathering of human beings!  :spooked:

It also ranks as the largest gathering of humans in the United States history.

No cars were burned or overturned, no looting took place, and no rioting.  The rush hour was also historically rough though, even for Chicago; as revelers packed public transit along with those who actually worked that day.  :big grin:

Good things come to those who wait; and in Chicago they waited 108 years for a Cubs WS celebration, and several hours for a train home afterwards.
