Title: I lead an Interesting Life!
Post by: libby on January 19, 2016, 12:32:35 PM
I lead an interesting life.  Sometimes things happen that catch me totally off guard. Maybe because I'm a dreamer and don't always pay attention to what's happening around me. Anyway, the weather forecasters are talking about maybe a lot of snow here Friday and/or Saturday. They're often wrong, but just in case, I decided to go to go to the grocery store closest to me and pick up some necessities, which included cat food, litter, bird seed, some nabs and cookies, etc. The grocery store is in a shopping center near an industrial park, and a lot of people from there walk over to get lunch, so I went a little early.

Got my stuff, saw a check out line with only one person in it, so started unloading it.  The aisle was narrow, so I couldn't reach the heavy bag of bird seed. The man in front of me reached down and put it on the counter, and I thanked him -- I was a bit flustered because for once the check out clerk was ahead of me. Then the man looked down at me and said, "I'll pay for you." I thought he was joking -- and I said "It looks like we're going to get some snow," and he said, "a lot of snow." I said "have a nice day," and he said "you do the same." Then he began moving away, I turned back to the clerk to pay, and she said, "He paid for it," and handed me the receipt ($38.40). Things got really awkward for me then. The clerk  asked if I knew him, and I said no, and she said he seemed nice.

I pushed my cart outside, thinking maybe I could see him and thank him...  while also wondering if I looked like a bag lady and he felt sorry for me. (It's very cold here, and windy, and I had on my L.L. Bean sneaker-style boots, pants, and ski jacket, plus a pink knit cap.) He was dressed like a businessman and I thought I might spot him, but he was nowhere to be seen so I put my stuff in my car and drove home.

Awesome!

That kind of thing happens around here from time-to-time; including people that go to the local stores like WalMart and pay off lay away accounts for people they do not even know. . .

I'd love to be able to do that sometime for someone. . . In fact, my wife and I talk about doing just that if we ever hit the lottery. . .

What a nice thing to have happen!!! My husband did something similar but not to that extent the other day. He went on a chocolate fix run for daughter and me and while at the grocery was a lady trying to decide if she needed some sort of fuel stuff you put inside your car. She had picked up some candy bars and put them back because she told the clerk that she needed the fuel injector stuff. My husband bought the candy bars and handed them to her. He told me that her and her husband looked down on their luck so he gave them the candy bars and said I know what is like to have a wife want chocolate. Lol, but his amount was not that much and that was super nice of that guy!

I think it is because the media has conditioned us to pay more attention to the assholes. . .

I can tell you one story, that the Troll has some good in him.  One year I was down at Gulf Shores AL. and I had been swimming in the Gulf.  I was taking a fresh water shower to go back to our room.  I looked down and seen a beautiful gold wedding ring and I picked it up.  I then looked out at the beach and seen a woman and her three small kids tearing up the towels and going through the sand where they were sitting.

I walked over to them and watch them for a while.  The lady looked up at me and I said, "by chance are you looking for a wedding ring?".  The lady said, yes, I just lost it.  I showed her the ring and she broke down in tears and said she didn't think she would ever see it again.  I handed to her and walked off.  As I have always said, when you see a women down and out, leaving them crying.  :haha:  I have thought, when she looks at the ring.  If she wonders who that big guy was who found it for her.

Good story, Troll. I bet she was just glad to get her ring back.
