A rare weather phenomenon at the Grand Canyon had visitors looking out on a sea of thick clouds just below the rim.
The total cloud inversion is expected to hang inside the canyon throughout Thursday.
National Weather Service says the weather event happens about once every several years, though the landmark was treated to one last year. 8)

I've seen that is the southwestern Virginia mountains many times. It never ceases to amaze me how beautiful it is.
I have also seen the clouds spill over East River Mountain like a giant wave crashing on shore. That takes your breath away!

I've seen this picture many times over the years. I wonder how long ago it was taken.

It was taken in 1993, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that. I think it's much older. The colors look like an old Polaroid picture.
I saw it in person in 1971.

I don't know Bo D, I'm fairly certain it was taken after I left that area. I've been in Florida since 1989, so 1993 may be about right.
I'm friends with Mel's daughter on Facebook, so maybe I'll just go get the date straight from the horse's mouth. ;D

Maybe so, but if that was taken in 1993, the quality for that period is pretty bad.

That could be from one of those new fangled, fancy, schmancy camera's....Digital Photo....
I remember those not being all that great at first.....that would have been around that time frame.
I remember when Grubb started printing and publicizing that picture, but also seem to remember that I'd seen it before.
I dropped my buddy Payton (my labradoodle) off this morning to get groomed. He loves this day. He gets to play with other dogs and is pampered. The Dog'n'Suds, in Pendleton, adore him. They do a wonderful job with him too.
He will be tuckered out tonight, as he usually is after one of these days. I am going to pick him up here in just a few minutes...this dog is the BEST. I never had a pet where I have had so much fun as I have with this guy.
I could not have asked for a better dog. He behaves fantastic. He is affectionate. He loves to just hang out with me at night and watch TV or go out in my garage while I tinker around and practically never leaves my side. He sleeps on the floor on my side of the bed. My TV is my alarm clock in the morning, it goes off at 5:45....as soon as it turns on, he is up on my bed, ready to wake me up. I take him out to potty, then feed him. He loves to go in the bathroom with me while I shave and get ready.
He always walks me to the door when I leave and then looks out the window as I pull out of my drive.
:smitten:
What more can you ask for? I mean really.
Sounds like a great friend! I'm happy for you!
This greeted me this evening as I arrived home; and after the shitty day I had it provided a much needed spiritual boost! 8)

Yes. . . it is a Hawk, sitting on top of the burner that is just outside our back door! (I called my wife after stopping dead in the road to snap this picture, and she got her closest look at a hawk in her life! 8) (Photo courtesy of me and my iPhone)
A couple of personal shots I took in 2010 from our cabin near GSMNP:

Here is a picture I took last week. It is a Hawk also! Lol
Here is one of my favorites, can't remember where I snapped this one at.
Nice bald eagle!

Nice bald eagle!
Thanks, I remember now that I snapped this at a wildlife place in Tn. Wish I could have snapped one in flight!

Thanks for confirming. I was just surprised that I had seen it happen more than 22 years before that and no one had posted any earlier photos.
I was in Psych class at Bluefield College (it was either 1970 or '71) when someone screamed "Look!" As I remember it the entire college spilled out on the the lawns to watch. It was quite a sight!
