Title: Another Reason Micro-sux Sucks
Post by: Palehorse on April 28, 2014, 06:02:05 PM
If you're using Internet Explorer and click on the wrong link, a hacker could hijack your computer.. . .

. . .This is how it works: Hackers set up a website that installs malware when you visit it. If you're duped into visiting the website while using the Internet Explorer program, malware seeps into your computer and gives a stranger total control. You might not even notice.
"I'd say someone taking control of your computer is just the beginning of the worst case scenario," said Adrian Sanabria, a security expert with 451research.com. "Because then they steal your info, get access to your email, etc." . . .

. . .It's worse for those using Windows XP, because Microsoft no longer supports that operating system with security patches. To them, Microsoft says: Go upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1. . . .

Yeah, as usual Microsux says, "pay me".

Yet another reason to keep my Mac!

You're a Mac person - I'm a PC person ....

If there were enough of you guys around, the crooks would be targeting you first. Notice I wrote "first" and not "too." Because Mac's are not invulnerable.

And another thing ... if the stupid idiots who use computers didn't open every piece of trash that shows up in the Inbox, we wouldn't have nearly the problem we do now.

At least Mac doesn't say "pay me" every time they update their operating system; among other things.

I'm perfectly fine with you pc guys. Throw your money at Gates.

It ensures they don't target me first; if at all. . .  :icon_twisted:

I agree Bo D.  I do think this constant upgrading and changing so you can't use older software is a bit over the top though.

Yup, MS sucks, but then so does Apple.

I really don't see why we can't get back to stand-alone programs and a menu program like old Quick Menu - which Gates basically cloned for his original Windows - that used batch files.

Now maybe I'm being stodgy, but I recall far less problems with programs and they did their job well.  For example, does anyone remember Lotus and how well it worked - and you didn't even need Windows inserting itself in between you and the program.

I absolutely detest Lotus Notes. I have to use it at work. They might as well hand me a hammer, chisel, and rocks.

I've never used Lotus Notes.  I'm referring to an old DOS based database program, Lotus 123.

Yeah. I used that back in the day, but as far as I know Lotus Notes replaced it. Never cared for either of them though. . .

You guys are really making me feel old with this.

First, I agree that DOS was in many ways superior to what we have now. What I don't miss about it is individually installing printer drivers, display drivers, etc., etc. for every DOS application and then changing those drivers every time your printer (or monitor or modem, etc.) died and you had to replace it. At least with Windows, you only have to install devices one time. Plug and Play works pretty darn well now, too!

Second, Lotus 1-2-3 was not a database program. It was a spreadsheet - the first "Killer App." Although it had flat-file database capabilities, most people rarely used that function. We used d-Base as the defacto database app.

And it wasn't replaced by Lotus Notes, it was Lotus Symphony, and the SmartSuite. Lotus Notes was primarily an email app. IBM pulled the plug on the Lotus family last year, I think.

Geez, I feel old .....

All I know is anything with the word Lotus in the title from Micro-SUX . . . SUX. . . in my opinion. Cumbersome and like trying to use on hammer on something that requires a toothpick. . .

I'm not saying I was ever a heavy user of any version of this Lotus thing. I avoided it like the plague. And still do. But unfortunately my employers insist on handing me a hammer, chisel, and stone slate to use when a simple database will due.

Old? Why should I be the only one that "feels" old?  :icon_twisted:
