Post by: me on August 13, 2013, 08:01:28 AM
This is an actual news story and not a bunch of crap.  If you take pics with your cell please take the time to watch.

Sounds like an easy fix though, people need to wise up if they are going to play on line.

What?????  All I see is a good tip for those who have no clue that so much info can be transmitted via a Smartphone.  There are a lot of people who get those and can barely do anything but take pictures let alone know about the settings on them.  I don't own one and have no intentions of getting one but I know people who do have them and take pictures constantly.  Most people wouldn't even think about something like that happening by taking a seemingly innocent picture.

Those same innocent people that open every damn viral email that comes in and swear that it's true because it was on the internets?

Oh, so you're insinuating that everyone with half a brain knows a simple picture can transmit all that data?  There are people who know not to click certain links in emails or on FB but have no clue about the picture on Iphone thing.  That is a totally different thing and has nothing to do with all the information out there about viruses and such.  The average computer user would not necessarily know this.  Some people who have the phones don't even have a computer at home but they can take a picture and transmit it to someone else and they wouldn't have a clue.  What all this boils down to is you are calling me stupid for posting this any way you look at it.

If the didn't know before, they know now. The news story/video has gone viral. That said, even the "not so innocent" people now know how to track people.

So things like that shouldn't be passed around to let people know.....How generous of you Bo D.  I do hope you're not trying to say I'm wrong for passing the information on.

And the people that see that will know how to head it off at the pass.

Hey! What can I say? I guess I enjoy helping point out people who are too f'in stupid to pay attention to all the warnings on the phone screen about location tracking when you set it up.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to use electronic devices.

Does it specifically say you can be tracked by taking and transmitting pictures?

Absolutely! Yes! Mine does. Mine also warns me when I check traffic and weather or use the GPS. Every app that I have installed that uses tracking warns me about it.

Wonder if some of the older ones don't since they thought it important enough to do a newscast on.  I don't own one and won't so I have no idea how they are set up.  I have a cell but only use it for emergencies, I don't even know the number.  I've go so many minutes stacked up on my tracphone acct from renewing once a year I could use it every day all day for a month and never use all that minutes.  They are handy if your home phone goes out due to weather related issues or you're stuck out on the highway with car trouble though.  I think the only time I used my cell lately was to call AAA when the fuel pump went out and to see if mom needed anything last winter on one of our grocery runs.  I hate talkin' on the phone so I'll be darned if I'll carry one with me constantly even to have access to the internet.  As far as GPS goes, I've been without that all these years and rarely got lost so I can get along without it now.  I neither track or get tracked that way.
