Stephen Slevin's 22 months in solitary confinement in a county jail left him traumatized and physically weak, but he'll soon be a multimillionaire for his suffering.
The New Mexico county that locked him up on a drunk driving charge, isolated him from other inmates and accused of essentially forgetting about him for nearly two years agreed this week to settle his lawsuit for $15.5 million.
Slevin, now 59, went to jail in August 2005 as "a well nourished, physically healthy adult," but emerged with a long beard, bed sores, bad teeth and weighing just 133 pounds in June 2007, according to the lawsuit.
Jailers separated Slevin from other inmates because of his history of mental illness, according to the lawsuit filed by Albuquerque civil rights attorney Matthew Coyte in December 2008. . . .
No trial, and they just "forget" about this guy?
He's getting a little over 15 million but my guess is the lung cancer he contracted will eat up a big chunk of that while he slowly dies; never having had a moment to "enjoy" what remains of his life nor obtain what was wrongfully taken from him.
There has to be more to this story. How can you forget someone, in jail, for two years?!
Oh, that's easy anymore with crooked cops, crooked prosecutors and a group of stupid sheeple on the juries.
They took 18 people off of death row and out of prison in Chicago, Ill., the people were found to be innocent with DNA evidence.

Municipalities don't just agree to settle cases "out of court" to the tune of 15+ million unless there is more to the story. And that being very unflattering or even criminal on their part. . .
I looked at the before and after pictures of this guy and they were horrific.
