WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A Chinese restaurant forced to shut its doors after getting caught with a dead deer in the kitchen.

It happened Thursday afternoon at the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg.

"We were actually joking about the, you know, the whole Chinese restaurant. You know some rumors that you hear," says Katie Hopkins, a customer of the Red Flower restaurant.

But, Hopkins and her friends never imaged what would happen next, after finishing up a buffet lunch.

"Two of the workers came in wheeling a garbage can and they had a box sitting on top of it. And hanging out of the garbage can, they were trying to be real quick with it. So that nobody could see it. But there was like a tail, and a foot and leg. Sticking out of the garbage can and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen," adds Hopkins.

Hopkins immediately called the health department to describe what she saw, "Many people eat there. A lot of locals eat there on lunch breaks and stuff. It was very disturbing. There was actually a blood trail that they were mopping up behind the garbage can."

Paul Lawson, the environmental health inspector in Whitley County says this is the craziest thing he's ever seen.

After he arrived at the Chinese restaurant on south highway 25 West, he says the complaints proved to be true after finding roadkill in the restaurants kitchen.

Lawson tells us that the owner's son admitted to picking up a dead deer off the side of I-75 north in Williamsburg.

This prompted the health department to immediately shut down business.

"They said they didn't know that they weren't allowed to. So that makes me concerned. But maybe thy could have before. They didn't admit to doing it before," says Lawson.

Lawson tells us that the restaurant can reopen if they pass a secondary health inspection, proving that they have washed, rinsed, and sanitized the restaurant after having roadkill inside.

The restaurant owner tells the health department that he wasn't going to serve the road kill to customers, but instead to his family.

The Red Flower Chinese Restaurant will not face any fines.

We contacted the owner of the restaurant, but due to a language barrier we were not able to confirm if the family had plans to reopen the business.

Some customers like Katie Hopkins say, even if they reopen, they won't be going back, "I don't think I'll ever eat Chinese food ever again."

My daughter used to work in a building next to a chinese restaurant. They would have a bunch of cages with rabbits in them outside the back door and the rabbits would slowly disappear. Then pretty soon another bunch of rabgist would appear in the cages. Never ate there again.

My girlfriend has a commercial insurance inspections company and she won't touch anything from any Chinese restaurant.  And from the pictures that she's showed me that some of her inspectors have taken, I won't either.

When I was very young we lived on a farm and raised rabbits, sold them and ate them. There was just something not right about those rabbits right outside the back door of that restaurant.

My grandfather hunted rabbits and brought them home to eat.  I can't recall personally ever having any, although it could have been served to me disguised as something else.

I worked with a guy who live South of Indianapolis about 40 miles and he worked midnights.  On his way to work and check the road for road killed deer.  On his way home in the morning he would pick the deer that was killed while he was at work.

I told me that if the guts were punctured he wouldn't pick it up.  But a deer that was killed by blunt force he would take home and dress it out.  Over the year he would get anywhere from 4 to 6 deer a year.  He said that he had a freezer full now.  It about time for a family get together.  :hunt:  Hunting them is a waste of time.     Just run them over.

Yes, rabbit is good especially tame rabbits the wild ones have a little wild taste, but never the less they are good to.  Nothing like going out on a cold morning to hunt the cotton tails getting few with your hunting buddies and then that night have a rabbit fry and drink a little beer.

Also dad raised rabbits when I was a kid.  We ate them and dad sold them.  Good protein at a low cost.

So does alligator tail.    :rotfl: :big grin:

I used to go rabbit hunting with my Dad and my brother.  I was only 6 or 7, and carried a BB gun, and had to walk right behind my Dad the whole time.
My Mom would fix it like fried chicken, and it was very good.  I also had squirrel too, and it tasted like chicken.  I don't think I could it squirrel again, but I would gladdly eat rabbit.  If it was fixed like Mom used to do it.

I have had alligator, and yeah, it does taste like chicken!  I think the secret is batter and deep fry things, and they taste like chicken.

Maybe that's it, because that's exactly how the alligator tail was prepared.

Frog leg :frog: are good too.  As a youngster the boys around my small town would go down to Stoney Creek which ran for miles and we would take our frog gigs :frog: and a gasoline lantern and we wade the creek and gig frogs. :frog:  You had to be careful when you fried them because they would try to jump out of the frying pan.      :frog:  :eat:

Even the bumper of a '57 Chevy would taste good if fried in bacon grease.

I've had both and they do indeed resemble chicken in taste and texture. . .

I made my wife promise me to have some gator while she was in New Orleans this past spring. She did, and when I asked her what it was like her answer was: "chicken".

And dude, you don't know what you are missing when it comes to frog legs. Cooking them is half the enjoyment though. Gig a nice bunch of them and de-leg them. Batter them up and toss them in the fryer and the damned things try to jump back out! (That's how you tell if they are fresh)  :icon_twisted:

How about Rattlesnake.  Years and years ago Linder's on the Point at the edge of Anderson.  At banquets old man Linder would serve Rattlesnake.  They were big pieces of snake.  I would eat it and it sorta tasted like chicken once you got the idea that you were eating snake.

But, I will tell you this, if I was on Survivor Island and a big Diamond Back came slitter along, guess what.  Snake On!  We would eat that sucker.  :eat:

I've had snake; rattler, python, and probably several others to the best of my recollection. And yes, I'd eat them again; but outside of a survival situation it would most likely be for their skin, with which I'd be making some nice belts, boots, or a wallet.  :icon_twisted:

Back in the 60's we would go to the Flamingo in Muncie and my mother would order frog legs. I was never brave enough to try them.
