'Extravagant' Spending, $16 Muffins Found at Justice Conferences

Enough already!...I know both parties are guilty....this is not directed at any party....just enough with the stupid ass spending........this country is on the brink of disaster ...... it is time for cookies and kool-aid for government conferences...

U.S. Justice Department (http://topics.bloomberg.com/justice-department/) agencies failed to minimize the cost of conferences, in one case serving $16 muffins and in another case serving beef Wellington appetizers that cost $7.32 per serving, an audit found.
"Some conferences featured costly meals, refreshments, and themed breaks that we believe were indicative of wasteful or extravagant spending," the Justice Department's inspector general wrote in a report released today.

Yes, I know it's wrong to spend money that way.  But have you seen the price of what charge for a catered meal at wedding here in Indiana.  It's is ridiculous.

What do you think a catered meals cost when one of the big corporation CEOs throws a big party for all of the corporations friends.  Hell it's only the stock holders money.

Another case of the opposition going off half cocked - Yet another fallacy exposed!

The Justice Department inspector general announced Friday that its highly publicized assertion last month that department officials paid $16 per muffin at a Washington legal conference was wrong.
Acting Inspector General Cynthia Schnedar issued a revised report, which said her office's highly publicized original report in September had incorrectly concluded that the cost of the muffins at a 2009 conference were so pricey. "We regret the error in our original report," the new document says.
The $16 claim created an inside-the-Beltway storm, with both the Hilton hotel chain and key department officials blasting the independent inspector general's report. The report cited the high cost of the muffins as an example of uncontrolled federal costs.
"After publication of the report, we received additional documents and information concerning the food and beverage costs at the Executive Office of Immigration Review conference," the new inspector general's report said.
"After further review of the newly provided documentation and information and after discussions with the Capital Hilton and the (Justice) Department, we determined that our initial conclusions concerning the itemized costs of refreshments at the EOIR conference were incorrect and that the department did not pay $16 per muffin."
"We have therefore revised the report based on these additional documents and deleted references to any incorrect costs," the reported noted.

Anyone with one ounce of common sense would know that a hotel wouldn't put down on paper that they charge $16 a muffin.

If it included all of that it sounds about right, $16 a person for a light breakfast, esp  in that kind of market. The last convention I attended in 2010, in Dayton, the breakfast buffet was almost $20.
