Why Liberals are more Intelligent than Conservatives - Psychology Today (http://m.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-scientific-fundamentalist/201003/why-liberals-are-more-intelligent-conservatives)

QuoteAnalyses of large representative samples, from both the United States and the United Kingdom, confirm this prediction.  In both countries, more intelligent children are more likely to grow up to be liberals than less intelligent children.  For example, among the American sample, those who identify themselves as "very liberal" in early adulthood have a mean childhood IQ of 106.4, whereas those who identify themselves as "very conservative" in early adulthood have a mean childhood IQ of 94.8.

Even though past studies show that women are more liberal than men, and blacks are more liberal than whites, the effect of childhood intelligence on adult political ideology is twice as large as the effect of either sex or race.  So it appears that, as the Hypothesis predicts, more intelligent individuals are more likely to espouse the value of liberalism than less intelligent individuals, possibly because liberalism is evolutionarily novel and conservatism is evolutionarily familiar.

The primary means that citizens of capitalist democracies contribute their private resources for the welfare of the genetically unrelated others is paying taxes to the government for its social welfare programs.  The fact that conservatives have been shown to give more money to charities than liberals is not inconsistent with the prediction from the Hypothesis; in fact, it supports the prediction.  Individuals can normally choose and select the beneficiaries of their charity donations.  For example, they can choose to give money to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, because they want to help them, but not to give money to the victims of the earthquake in Chile, because they don't want to help them.  In contrast, citizens do not have any control over whom the money they pay in taxes benefit.  They cannot individually choose to pay taxes to fund Medicare, because they want to help elderly white people, but not AFDC, because they don't want to help poor black single mothers.  This may precisely be why conservatives choose to give more money to individual charities of their choice while opposing higher taxes.

Incidentally, this finding substantiates one of the persistent complaints among conservatives.  Conservatives often complain that liberals control the media or the show business or the academia or some other social institutions.  The Hypothesis explains why conservatives are correct in their complaints.  Liberals do control the media, or the show business, or the academia, among other institutions, because, apart from a few areas in life (such as business) where countervailing circumstances may prevail, liberals control all institutions.  They control the institutions because liberals are on average more intelligent than conservatives and thus they are more likely to attain the highest status in any area of (evolutionarily novel) modern life.

I for one think that white women are more attractive than black womam.  Blond, tall, blue or green eyes.  That's what I like and that's what I married.  So what anyone else thinks of me for thinking that way.  :azz:

I would really like to take an IQ test.  I got a 98 in the Junior year of high school.  I know I wouldn't get in Mensa International.  But I do think with the added education I have received and the experiences in life I do think I could do better than 98.  For one thing I have learned how to take a test better. You get the easy questions first and then you go back.  It really improved my test taking and scores.

I also think I could beat, hand down, "ME" and believe me that's not bragging.

And just how was that research conducted?  You are wanting real bad to lump a group of people together here and put a label on them.   What a person is politically has nothing to do with their level of intelligence it has to do with personal choice and beliefs.  What is it you don't understand about everyone does not think alike nor do they have the same opinion about things.  Are we all supposed to agree about things all of a sudden or be labeled as stupid?  Isn't that a form of bullying, telling someone they are stupid if they don't have the same opinion as you, to get them to see things your way?   What tactic will they come up with next?

IMO the phrase "liberalism is evolutionarily novel and conservatism is evolutionarily familiar" says it all and is true enough to support the author's claim.

1. Read the article and contact the author to find out more about the research.
2. Conservativism and Liberalism doesn't necessarily only pertain to political beliefs.
3. I never made the claim that people whose opinion is different than mine is stupid.

Oh, I also caught where he hinted at racism with one of his BS comments too which is pretty shabby after that one article he wrote.  He got two bully tactics worked in there.  He is just another Liberal blogger writing Liberal slanted articles and books.

Conservatives do think different than Liberals.  First of all they think they are better than anyone else.  All good things should come to them first.

They are greedy and selfish, and hide the racism and bigotry through religion and code words.  Given the choice of the two I choose Liberalism.   It is really what made this country great and the Founding Father was a pretty Liberal bunch of men.  They didn't let religion and politics blind their forward thinking in the backward thinking of the 1700s.

My god how bad would it have been if the Puritans had drawn up the Constitution.  With a  Puritan preacher :preach: Lord and Master :pope: at the top and the sheeple kissing his and  their ass and ring. :gha: :4th4:  :salute:

Chicken/egg...he is not suggesting that people are less intelligent because of their opinions; he is suggesting that they arrive at those opinions because they're less intelligent.

Sort of like the constant claims about the liberal media...the media doesn't come off as liberal because they intend to; it's simply hard not to seem so when you tell the truth about how fucked up conservatives are.

What ever he is doing it is just an opinion of a liberal and the article is agenda driven.  Only elitists think they are above a certain group or class of people and that is what he is saying by stating that liberals are more intelligent.

Observation (to no one in particular)

The POTUS's approval rating is suffering from what amounts to nothing short of mutiny; that being undertaken by congressional members for more than nefarious reasons.

No matter what the situation, congressional leadership should be taking the high road in all things; and given the fact that the current POTUS represents a historic milestone in this nation's history, one would think that would be a given. But no.

Instead we see stalling, at record setting levels, political posturing, and acts that do nothing more than take the least of our population and hold them hostage to their insatiable hunger for power. And fear. Finger pointing.

Instead of enacting legislation to free all citizens from the yoke of an ever threatening depression, we see acts that will delay them; inching us each hour closer toward the precipice and risking the longevity of this nation for nothing more than a political agenda!

Instead, we see our elected officials at city, state, and federal levels, drumming up insidious legislation designed to reach into the poor's wallets with both hands; while leaving those who possess the fattest wallets untouched. Moreover, providing these same fat wallet owners the means necessary to decrease the level of contributions they make toward our society. (Taxation and regulatory freedom to move to another country).

If anyone in Madison county really thinks that property taxation is not a factor anymore, one only has to look to e-bay to see how bad it is has become. 3 commercial properties in downtown Anderson are listed on e-bay! Those three properties representing the lion's share of the class A business property in the entire city. And the reason the current owners are selling? Taxation rates! (One of them lives in Russia).

This can only lead to worse things for our nation, and we appear to be hell bent for leather on getting there!

If ANY elected official thinks they are a sure thing to be re-elected in the coming elections, they had better do some serious self assessments surrounding their actions over the past 3 years. (Less in some cases).

I have every intention of not voting for a single incumbent in the coming elections, and in 2012 as well; with one singular exception. . . I'll let you guess who that might be.

I just saw the above bolded portion of this post, on CNN! Great, now the entire country knows!

I think they should check the property tax over in Hamilton county.  This is one county that is run completely by the Republican Party.  If Jesus Christ was to run for mayor of Noblesville the Republicans would build a cross for him. :jc:
