Guess it was gonna bite the Dems in the butt so they decided maybe putting it back in place wasn't such a good idea huh?
FCC eliminates remaining Fairness Doctrine rules
The Daily Caller – Mon, Aug 22, 2011
Twenty years after then-Chairman Mark Fowler and his Federal Communications Commission deemed the Fairness Doctrine unconstitutional and voted to abolish it, the Commission announced today that it would delete the remaining regulations upholding the policy.
Though the doctrine, which mandated that broadcasters air contrasting viewpoints on controversial political issues, was formally abolished in spirit in 1987, some rules enforcing the doctrine remained on the FCC's books. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski cited a need to "remove an unnecessary distraction" in eliminating the obsolete rules.
"As I have said, striking this from our books ensures there can be no mistake that what has long been a dead letter remains dead. The Fairness Doctrine holds the potential to chill free speech and the free flow of ideas and was properly abandoned over two decades ago."
Created in 1949 by the FCC, the Fairness Doctrine required broadcasters to devote airtime to discussion of controversial issues of public interest in a balanced and "fair" manner, and in a way that would allow multiple and opposing perspectives to be expressed. At the time of the doctrine's creation, few radio and television stations existed in the United States, and the possibility of an ideological monopoly held by the "Big Three" broadcast networks was a tangible threat.
The Fairness Doctrine was finally eliminated during the Reagan administration, with then-President Ronald Reagan himself calling it "unconstitutional." With the proliferation of cable channels and talk radio ever since, multiple Democratic figures and lawmakers in Congress have tried to bring back the Fairness Doctrine.
Along with the obsolete Fairness Doctrine rules, the FCC will eliminate rules that have a negative impact on businesses, including "broadcast flag" filing requirements and proceeding rules, most created in times of broadcast monopolies.

That's all right, the Radical, Teabagger, Republican, Dead head Christians far right have already ruined AM radio.
You can't get any news from the Progressive side at all. Since only about 4 corporations own all of the radio stations. They have raped the air waves of America with their Predatory Capitalism. Long live the Super Rich and the corporations they own.
With Rush Limpaw, Glen Beck and all of the other meat heads dumb asses on the radio. I don't even turn on the radio any more and I don't and wouldn't buy from anyone who advertises on these radio stations. :finger2: So much for freedom.
I think the radio stations are missing a lot of business from the 51% of the Progressive listeners. :flap: :flap:
It must make you Teabagger very happy. Meat Head Loony.

Ya'll had Air America and no one wanted to hear them evidently 'cause they went belly up. You have NBC, ABC, and MSNBC. What's wrong with having another opinion anyway? Your problem, along with some others, is you don't think there should be any other opinions. Like I keep saying, it doesn't work that way.
I listen to satellite radio almost exclusively. Cut the crap and play the music.

There IS a reason WHY liberals cannot sell on the radio or newspapers........you have to have a market and NOBODY wants to listen to bullshit or read about it.........it there is NO audience then there is NO advertisers....no advertisers, NO show....that simple. WHY, because DEMOCRAT SUCK!! ;D

The Fairness Doctrine was the only way to keep things fair. To keep the people with all of the money from monopolize the air waves. It went away and so did fairness.
Fairness went away when the Robert's Supreme Court ruled that a corporation had the same rights as a human being. But they have more rights. They can't go to jail and they can give all the money to elect any political candidate they want. Thus buying the government. I bet you like that Hawk.
Your are one hell of a creep and totally unconscious.
It isn't like (stupid) Fucks news followed these rules anyway. :icon_twisted:
I'm calling bullshit on this one troll...............what is unfair about the ability to go on the air and only survive if you get advertisement and an audience...........if you do not get an audience you fail....that is simple and fair.
Why do you suppose FoxNews is number one in ratings by FAR...day in and day out?............because they have MORE viewers than all of the rest day in and day out.
It is only unfair, when the gov sticks their nose in and give tax dollars to 'try' to influence people to listen to something they do not want to listen too..........Air America failed because NOBODY wanted to listen to it...............Rush is successful because he has an enormous audience and advertisers pay big bucks to advertise on his show........that is why he collects a big $$$ for supplying a product that Americans WANT!
it is utter bullshit to think otherwise....
again, I am RIGHT and you are WRONG!!!......LET'S KEEP SCORE....HAWK 1 - TROLL 0

What he is saying about Radio Free America is not true. Where they were on the radio market they were No. 1. The more popular they became the more the Republican advertisers refused to advertise on that station, killing it. It is the Golden Rule. He who has the gold, rules and this is true in radio and the 4 corporations who own them. Just Goggle it.

Did you ever listen to it. I have on the computer. But the power of the dollar put them out of business. That is why the Anderson Herald put the Bulletin out of business. The Anderson advertisers wouldn't buy advertising in it. It was a good paper a more fair and balance paper.
Now they call it the damn Teabagger/Republican rag the Herald - Bulletin. Since GM has left Anderson and no one make a good wage any more the Herald-Bulletin has about 10 pages, until the weekend advertising.

The reason the HB is going out of business is their price to advertise in it. Last time I priced advertising it was over $100 for a 3 line ad for a month. That is ridiculous no matter how you slice it. Can you imagine what it costs for a regular business ad? Also I quit taking it because they are charging waaaaaay to much pr month for what you get. Hell, you get more local news in the Indy paper than you do the HB. The HB going under is their fault not for being greedy has nothing to do with being fair and balanced they just suck as a source for news.

It seem that you said some time back you did care how much business charge to do their business. That's what you said about drug companies and private health insurance CEOs and corporations. That's what you said. The old Herald is just trying to live.

What they charge is their business, what the consumer will pay for particular goods or service is another thing and that's how private enterprise works.

That how the drug and health insurance companies have all of us. We pay or we die. All of the modern countries have free health care and they pay half or less for American drugs. Sound fair to me. It sound alright to you. Right.

If their health care is so great then why do they come here, if they can afford it, for medical treatment? If our health care is going to be so great then why did the dem's in congress not want to have to be forced to go on the same plan they want to put us on? Remember part of what held up the bill was that the Republicans wanted that to be part of it, that congress had to be on the same plan. Hell, the dems even exempted their staff from it.
And now back to the subject at hand: The fairness doctrine.

You got your wish, you're happy and I am not. But without it, AM Radio is not the same and I will not listen to it and what they say, The Conservatives. Is just like the preacher talking to the choir. A captive audience.
But there is one thing you count on, the Tea Party and the Republican always step on their dicks and you and us will pay for it. Just like we are paying for your George W. Bush. And you voted for him 2 time and we have suffered for it going on 11 years and it seem to be getting worse as the Republican skeletons are falling out of the closets. :gha: So much for freedom and common sense. :dam:

George vetoed every Democrat bill and didn't veto any Republican bills and that's why we are in the shape we are in. But I should say, Dick Cheney was in control. Dick was George's brain. :puke:
