Title: Caterpillar threatens to leave Illinois over taxes...
Post by: Henry Hawk on July 18, 2011, 03:46:58 PM
Just WHEN will democrats LEARN that raising TAXES will NOT increase revenue, but rather increase UNEMPLOYEMENT....when?

In January, the state's General Assembly passed a Quinn-supported bill imposing a four-year increase in income taxes designed to reap $6.8 billion in added revenue and help the state balance its budget. The legislation raised the flat rate for personal income taxes to 5 percent from 3 percent and for corporate taxes to 7 percent from 4.8 percent. In 2015, both taxes are set to decline but remain above the prior rate.

The Illinois tax increase will cost Caterpillar's 23,000 employees in the state about $40 million this year, said Jim Dugan, the company's chief spokesman. Higher taxes make it harder for Caterpillar to attract and retain engineers, accountants and other employees, Dugan said. He added that Caterpillar's corporate taxes in the state also will increase but provided no estimate on the added cost.

But see HH those "projected" figures are fact and don't lie.  You know, like those "projected" figures on how the economy would be worse if it weren't for the things Obama's administration have done.

The Illinois Gen assembly consists of 63 dems and 54 republicans, yet somehow this is ALL the democrats fault? Puhlease!

Since the states are seeing their revenue streams shrinking, and they cannot leach anything more from their increasingly shrinking middle class and poor, and the conservative party of NO will not allow tax increases to the "rich", guess who's left!?

There will be more of this,  and unless congress closes the door to flight damned quick, I am betting the "cat" goes to a foreign land; not just leaving the state of Illinois but the whole damn country!(And the SCOTUS will back them doing so!)

Why is it so difficult for you guys to realize that to attract business, you have to at least have a decent tax rate to be competetive in today's market.  Keeping corp taxes low, will keep employement high, producing MORE revenue.....it is the most simple math, but yet all you can do is demonize THOSE very people who invest THEIR money because THEY do not want to play by some buearcratic bullshit rules....Government has GOT to quit spending it's money foolishly then want others to pay for their stupid mistakes.....

I hope no one minds if I don't give much credence to business advice that comes from someone who can't spell employment.

I know that I probably will not lose any sleep tonight worrying if you had not given too much credence to my ability to spell something on this forum, correctly.

Why is it so difficult for you guys to understand that someone has to pay this debt? Apparently most of you are just fine with the middle class shouldering the load instead of the wealthy pulling their fair share!

SO you believe all those companies that fled the shores of the US did so over taxation? Maybe, but the reality is they fled because they COULD! (AND CAN).

Cat is just saber rattling in an effort to "validate" their flight from the country in the eyes of the sheep. Its a diversionary tactic and it is working!

Worst case, they're shopping for a tax abatement from a desperate community in this country. . .

They did not leave because the CAN or COULD....they left because they have to compete and they have to make a profit..........staying where the were  meant they could NOT compete AND make the profit they needed to, to stay competitive.

Did it ever OCCUR to you that perhaps if we cut back on spending, we may not have to increase taxes to pay our debts? Do you think we have no room to cut back?  Don't you think it is best for the taxpayers to maybe, just maybe do away with some of the foolish spending?  Let's do that BEFORE we go asking daddy to give us a bigger allowance.

Wouldn't a tax abatement be better than having fewer individuals paying taxes to the state?......That is the way the game is played.  Let's look at the BIG picture.

Hey, I know what they can do.  Have the Republican Party sponsor a bill that will make the Caterpillar workers work for what they pay the Chinese.  With no vacation pay, no medical benefits or retirement, I'll bet they could be competitive.  Then they can make more profit than they are making now.  They make a good profit now.   Wouldn't that be the BIG PICTURE.   You so wonderful Henery, looking out for those poor corporations.   :smitten:

Troll you can talk all the shit you want........but, the bottom line is......PROFIT!

If they cannot make it, they do not stay in business........there is nothing else to say.  THAT is the NATURE of business.  Quit over regulating, quit over taxing them and let them make their profit.........and MAYBE they will return and everyone wins......the days of making wages of a Doctor to sit in an assembly line are gone, thanks to the UAW......YOU and MY dad were very privileged to have reaped the rewards....and those of this generation are screwed....so it is time to belly up and make $50,000 instead of $75,000.....pitch in for Healthcare, and save for their own retirement....be happy to get two weeks vacation.  Times are tough for everyone.....we all need to man up and deal with it.

Bunky, if you want to live the life of a scab that's your business.  I know for one thing knocking your dads UAW Pension probably doesn't give you much credence.  But you sure had the benefits of having health care and your dad's income than most of the kids you ran around with.  But just to show how fucked up you are, you knock the very thing that gave you a good standard of living.

As Exterminator would tell you, Henery go fuck yourself.  Talk about Johnny one note :music1:

That logic doesn't hold water Hank, and from what I know of you, you already should know that.

Better switch to blaming the union because this dog won't hunt!

Palehorse we both know that Caterpillar would have been in China already if they were willing to give up their patents and their trade secrets.

If they go it will be a big mistake for them.  China will the the number one builders of heavy construction equipment and it won't take them long.

Cat has a long history in the US, and they have always had negotiating problems with the unions. This whole thing is nothing more than an excuse to move out of the country. Watch. . .

I should have fact checked this issue earlier, for as usual this is a case of stirring up crap over old news: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/09/us-cmegroup-leaving-idUSTRE7586OM20110609 (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/09/us-cmegroup-leaving-idUSTRE7586OM20110609)

Seems they got what they wanted, and now corporations are lining up for their own slices of the pie!
