The House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee today voted 8-5 on party lines, to pass a bill that cuts unemployment benefits beginning in July 2012 to fix Indiana's bankrupt compensation fund.
While the top weekly benefit for unemployed workers remains unchanged under the bill, at $390 per week, the House Bill 1450 changes both who is eligible to receive them — barring those workers with planned down times, such as those whose plants seasonally shut down — and how a worker's benefits are calculated.

It's better than cutting them completely. No, I didn't read the article but based on what you wrote that's my input. I know the GM plant used to be off for 3wks in the summer for change over and they drew 95% of their working wage to sit home and do nothing.
I don't think that was unemployment, but part of their contract.

Top benefit is 390.00 a week. If they were getting more it was through a union subsidized insurance program and not state or federally endorsed nor subsidized by taxpayers.
Now, consider the fact they reduced substantially the surcharge passed last year but never implemented, that was supposed to be imposed upon businesses in order to achieve the same result. Instead, they reduced the amount of the surcharge on business and replaced the funds by slashing the money from those who can afford it least. Typical republican methodology at work! I wonder, will they proportionately reduce the amount each and every worker pays into this insurance fund? I HIGHLY doubt it! :mad: :mad: :mad:

Here we go again with scab and anti-union bull shit. They didn't draw unemployment. I know, I was a UAW worker. I worked the shut down, because I helped put in the new machinery and changed the assembly lines. You wouldn't know about that would you. Oh yeah, your probably know someone personally, that knows all about and told you. Right?
